It is confusing since they first released the 964 C4 car as an 89.

I had a meeting with a friend and buiness acquaintance today, and he told me that he wants to open a car business on the side (he owns several restaurants). He has a warehouse, has passed the state exam, is only waiting for the DMV approval on his business location in order to open his doors.

He wants to buy a lift (any recommendations?), paint the shop interior, buy some nice furnishings, etc. He can already sell his factory slantnose 930 Targa, or his Benzes. He is looking at a Jag E-Type, and wants me to go look at cars with him in Ventura.

Any thoughts? Anyone want to buy or sell a car?

My favorite lifts are the Rotary. I suggest a 10000 pound model, not the more economical 7500. It's nice to be able to lift a full size pickup/van etc. They have optional low profile arm extensions for low cars. The best are the Stenhoj and were the Porsche factory lifts until the factory switched over to Rotary. I would suggest a good liability insurance policy and a good source of workshop manuals for the different cars. Consult with a few different techs with the idea that you will bring on a qualified tech that will serve as a shop foreman. A good tech will guide you to the needed equipment, parts sources, and possibly bring some customers with him. Be careful not to overinvest on the front end, but develop as the shop dictates with a growing customer base. Auto enthusiasts that decide to jump into the business make a lot of mistakes and spend a lot of money unneccisarily - talk to people in the business and keep an open mind.

Here's the information you seek. There were 2065 Speedsters manufactured between January and September of 1989. 1894 of them were turbo look body styles. All 823 that were imported to the US were the turbo look body styles. The speedster was NOT a variant of the 964; in fact this model was the last 911 to be manufactured in the old Zuffenhausen factory on a bodyshell based on the original 1963 design. The Carrera 4 was built on a new production line. PeterZ is correct...people paid tens of thousands over MSRP to buy one, many for speculative purposes. But with the recession of the early 90's many speculators chose to hold the car for years, electing to wait until the economy improved. As a result there are an amazing amount of low mileage cars available. My first P-car was a red Speedster and I purchased it about 7 years ago for $39,000; it had 26,000 miles. Today this car, even with the depressed market, is worth about $50,000. Two years ago it might have brought high 50's. Red was the most common color by far. The speedster your looking at, if there are no issues is worth around $60,000; 2 years ago perhaps high 60's. Good luck!

Interesting comments about not liking the looks of the speedster. When the original speedster was introduced in the 50's, many "purists" of the time ridiculed the raked windshield and the overall look when compared to the regular 356; think they miscalculated a bit? I think the 89 speedster is far superior and more respective of the original than the 94 version, which is very "americanized" in look. JMOP

No way. If true and this is a real Speedster RUN, don't walk, with cash in hand.

As for the looks of the car, it's one of my favorite shapes ever. I've only seen one in person and I fell in love with it.

Who else knew about this? Was the car being advertised? Did somebody hawk this car out from under you, maybe someone privey to this forum? Just curious.
