275/45 16x9 Fuchs- Will they fit 911SC?
Hi everyone,
I am currently running 245/45 16x9 in the rear of my 911 SC without any problems. I have about 2 degrees rear negative camber and updated to 29mm torsion bars. I want to go bigger if possible, I was looking at the R6 275/45, they have rounded shoulders too. Looking at the specs and doing some measuring, it appears they should fit, but I am concerned during hard corners they may rub. They are a bit pricey to just try and see what happens. Does anyone know if 275/45 16x9 on Fuchs will fit a 911SC without rubbing? Thank You.

are you sure you want to do that with only a 3.0 litre in there ? ... wouldn't it cause the car to be somewhat slugish , and defeating the purpose of a lght nimble SC ?

But then again there is something to be said for a tire that's 1' smaller in diameter. I have heard the guys from Texas are even running 15" R comps on their 911sc's in club racing. Ed could probably shed some light on that.

The cat's out of the bag on 15" with used 15x7, 15x8 Fuchs difficult to find. The Texans are running Hoosier. Beginning to look like big rubber on oversized wheels is bling-bling. Going from 17" to 15" can reduce unsprung weight by up to 30 pounds.

"Does anyone know if {fill in your very wide wheel / tire combo onto some stock bodied 911 here} on Fuchs will fit a 911SC without rubbing?"
what little wisdom I've gleaned from observation & limited experience is;
- there must've been some reason the factory kept flaring the 911. the widest factory wheel ever put on a production 911 of the '65 - '89 era was 16x9 (iirc... non-turbo, & someone please correct me).
- "will set-up x fit an SC?" is not the best way to pose the matter (unless you are trying to create a chart). the more appropriate question is "will set-up x fit MY SC?" when one pushes fitment extremes, one can only know w/ certainty by actually fitting the desired setup on their specific car.
- until the end of the Carrera run ('89), the hand-assembly of 911 bodies meant that there might be slight differences in tire clearence between left & right sides. it usually isn't much (if any - sometimes they are "perfectly symmetrical" - maybe when the beer machine at the plant broke down), but it means that when you are pushing the limits of fitment, one side may fit & the other side mightn't - so fit BOTH sides when testing.
- & tire sizes & shapes vary. there are other variables in ride height, alignment, & etc. more reasons there is no way to know if an extreme variation will fit or not... w/o trial fitting the specific extreme fitment one is contemplating.
good luck!

Ok peeps, to clarify I am 3.2ss, race headers, 7:31 r&p, and have a torque bias LSD. The car rips, but I am not sure what this has to do with tire fitment...
I'm looking to see if I can stuff more tread back there. I know these SCs are unique ( hand made) and it may not work for my ride. I was just hoping someone with more experience could tell me "no way, max size is 245 on a 9x16" or "I have tried 275 and it's great" or whatever. Maybe I'll have to be the one to try and report back. Anyone?

7.31 ring and pinion with wide sticky tires can be a problem. I have an 8.31 now. My old 7.31 is a large paper weight.

Problem? Mussberger, Please explain, I find it better than 8:31 until I hit about 100mph. It's great for autocross and not too bad for the short track. I haven't had any problems with grip using R compound. My original 8:31 is a large paper weight for now!
