dave911,
In my origianl post I said "whole package".
You said "in looks maybe", like thats not a big deal? You put a 997s and a 97 c4s side by side and ask your average joe which car is nicer I bet they'd choose the c4s, and they probably wouldnt even know which one is newer.
The 993 IMO is still a drivers car very similiar to my 88 minus the power and power steering.
And, I wouldnt exactly say "blow the doors off" either.
Operative word here is "whole package"

"Whole package"??!! ...preaching to the choir here.
I agree with you, wholeheartedly. Which means, of course, that now we're both right!
I love my SC, and it makes for a great "raw" ride on the street, and a wonderful track tool since it is stripped of butt-saving devices, even as ubiquitous as ABS is ...pre 964 is raw 911 Goodness.
That said, the 993 is clearly the pinnacle of 911 air-cooled development. Truly the last of the Original mold as the H2O versions following bear no sims except for the name. The 993 looks and feels like the original 911: from the classic silhouette, to the unadorned interior, to the race-inspired guages, to most physical dimensions even. This, friends, is familiarity. Add doses of power, NVH improvements, increased cornering prowess, (yeah, an HVAC that works!), and a few subtle body tweaks to the signature shape, all the while retaining the visceral thrill and tactile feedback that is 911, and you have a winner. One that can go from daily driver to track, and back, from desert life to snow-plowed streets, this is one true sports car that does, I agree, have it all. The 993 series is "The Whole Package."
...personally, I prefer the "purity" of the narrow body, but let's not split hairs

prices come down...
holy $hit, prices come down...where sellers asking MSRP in the recent past?
I simply can't believe how much many C4 NB's and C4S 's are listed for...A higly optioned C4S was what..like $80K+ or- new, now 12-14 years later still in the 50's or 60's? That's nuts IMHO.
I want the WB, but probably gonna have to settle for a NB with some miles on it.
Yikes!

G-50, very nice exhaust set up!
I don't know how you guys are going to settle your debate. Maybe you should do like the movies and settle it by combat behind a Chinese restaurant? Battle to the death or some such.

I disagree. Back when I had my bypass, it definitely had a deeper/throatier sound.

You really think an average Joe would think the 993 is nicer than the 997? And you really think they wouldn't know which one is newer? Please tell me you didn't say that!
And...have you ever driven a 997 C2S or C4S? I would argue that the "whole package" is way ahead of the 993, which I have driven. I do like the 993's looks and might give it a slight...slight....edge in that department, but that is totally subjective.
