Post Price check: 86 911 Turbo 54k miles?

Hey guys, a buddy is selling his 86 911 Turbo, its very, very clean, always garaged, new high performance tires, almost flawless with just 54k miles. He has it priced at $32,500, but haven't got much response on his black beauty...Is that year range Turbo 911 pricing going down or stale? Thanks much for any imput!

I live in SLC, UT and about a month ago a "dealer" had a blk on blk '86 930 for sale. They were asking $24,900. I had to take a look. It was in good (not excellent) condition with new tires and recent maintenance done. The milage was a bit high at 120K. I spoke with the salesman and he told me to make an offer. The car sat for a couple of weeks then was gone. I called the salesman to see what they got for it, and he told me they wholesaled it out as no offers came in.

Don't know what it all means, but it appears there is not much demand. I'm sure if he keeps it for sale long enough, the right person may come along...

'86 NA prices have slumped a little due to the economy, but not to that point. I think a high mileage turbo may make some buyers nervous due to the percieved expensive motor upkeep, especially at 120K.

Similiar but not as bad as ZR1 Corvette, motor was a $30,000 option that stopped production in 1994. What happens when theat goes bad.

You may want to post this over on the 911 Turbo board as this is discussed frequently there. It sounds like he has it priced right, but may need to drop to 30K or so to sell it.

By the way, in the world of 930s, 54K vs. 120K on the odo is huge if we are talking about stock engines. 120K out of a stock 3.3 is very good and is very likely to be near a major rebuild (meaning 12K - 20K depending on upgrades).

Bill - that could be very true. I wanted to check the car out (as I drive by the dealer every day on may way home from work) to see if maybe I might have found a jewel, however when I hopped in the car, I was immediately turned away at 120K miles. The salesman offered the maintence info., however I didn't ask for a test drive or inquire as to any recent work other than maintenance, as I figured the price told all...

When we were lookign for a 930 one of the nicest we test drove had a 120K on it. The owner has always been on top of the maintenance and the car felt great. We went for a PPI and my mechanic said there were so many oil leaks that the engine was near its end. Of course if someone plans of modding the engine, which every responsible 930 owner must do, then maybe it is less of an issue. If you can save $6-8K by getting the higher mile car then you can put that toward a better turbo, bigger intercooler, a set of 3.4 pistons and cylinders, etc.

In the Washington, DC area The 930s don't sell anywhere near as quickly or easily as the n/a cars. I think their higher price, higher maintenance costs, and semi-exotic status scare people off a bit. I've had a few independent dealers tell me that they were almost un-sellable for those reasons.

Also, people expect even lower mileage on these than the n/a's. 54k is pretty good for a n/a, but high for a 930.

For what it's worth, I didn't think the 930 drove as well as the n/a overall, but I love that boost! If I could find a nice '89 with the G-50 for a reasonable price, I'd consider it.

Bout 2 months ago there was what appeared to be a very clean very nice 1986 930 on Ebay. Bummer it was a maroon in color. I believe the mileage was in the 50's. The seller was looking for 26k and did not get a bid that high. The car was also in SLC.
