Default What the.......

So, I see condensation on the iol fill cap and also noticed this yellowish "substance" on the filler cap. WHAT IS THIS STUFF? I have changed the engine oil quite often on this 1989 Carrera. I ran the 911 for about an hour on the highway, pulled it in the garage to check the engine oil and noticed this stuff. It was also down the engine oil fill tube. The 911 has 60,000 miles on it. Other info is that it was cold outside, maybe like 30 degrees outside and I noticed the yellow cap was not that warm. I say this because maybe this stuff condenses on the cooler surfaces.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

That's moisture evaporating out of your oil and condensing on the cap. The yellow stuff is some kind of blending of water and oil.

Where's all the moisture coming from? Probably moisture from combustion by product, blowing past your rings during combustion.

"Normal" process in air-cooled cars during winter use. Cream created from the oil and water vapors mixing and condensing on the cooler filler neck/cap area, probably even in the top of the tank. You have to get the engine hot for awhile to burn it all out. We had VW bugs in the family that would regularly accumulate about 1/2 cup or more of it in the filler neck during the winter they never got hot enough to purge all of the water vapor out.

Good info guys! Thanks for the reassurance that my Carrera is not being slimed by Ghostbusters or something like that.

I appreciate my fellow Rennlisters coming to the rescue here for me!

ALso wipe that cap out. It is easier to monitor that way, not that you need to.

the engine is totally boned .. sell it to me quick

I see this constantly in my car as the weather gets much cooler .. not a big deal at all .. more likely to see it in the spring when the humidity levels come up ... don' sweat it ....
