Default 180 MPH Speedometer

Hi All,

When was the 180 MPH speedo used and on what model 911? I'm sure the one I saw was not for a 930 as there was no boost gauge.

Was it ever used on '89 or earlier 911's? Perhaps an RS or RSR?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Turbo boost gauges are found in the tach not the speedo. as for which cars they were in or first showed up in.... not sure.

Duhhh.... You are so right, the boost gauge is in the middle gauge, not the speedo! Thanks for pointing that out, I was not thinking!

So that opens back up the Turbo possibility.

So,,, anyone know which cars/years the 180MPH speedo was used?

Thanks,

Sebastian

Hi Bill,

You list the car as a "hotrod", so I'm curious if it is original to the car, or was it added later? That info would help immensely.

Thanks!

The dash & guages are all original '76 Carrera 3.0, the only thing I did was convert the face from kph to mph at N Hollywood Speedo when it was brought over

For US 911 cars you usually had a 150mph speedo. Then they went to those silly 80 mph speedos, mandated by the DOT, late 70s, early 80s. Turbos had them around their introduction. This issue got some attention on Rennlist nearly a year ago. Try a search. What we discovered was that it varied a lot. Had to do with the parts bins at Zuffenhausen. Some cars got them, and some didn't. Since the odometer is in these things on that era car they have a good chance of having been replaced. (When I used to peg my 150 mpg speedo I finally found a 170 mph one at the factory that also had the kph readouts on it, too).
