Default 2nd and 3rd High Pitch Winning

I was trying a friends 87 carrera and they fixed hs transmission. He called me up to hear a noise and the car has a high pitch winning during 2nd and 3rd with load. Any suggestions?

3rd gear not repaired properly? I had this same thing happen on my 915 transmission, and it turned out to be that the thrust washer between 2nd and 3rd destroyed itself and 2nd gear was moving back and forth on the mainshaft. That action destroyed 3rd and it had to be replaced. Not a good sign in a 915 transmission.

What was "fixed" on your friend's G 50?

Actually there was a part in the second gear, not the gear itself that broke. It was some sort of key or pin. I can try and find the part number but it was some time ago.

Did the noise start immediately after getting the car back together, or is it getting progressively worse? Was it ever quiet?

The transmission was assembled by a wannabe mechanic like two years ago, the car ran for about a month without the noise, then the clutch pressure plate broke since the wannabe guy did not put the replacement I ordered for him.
The car sat for about 1-1/2 years and taken to a local porsche guy to replace the clutch. Its been almost a month now and I would say the noise is progressive but fast.

Is it possible that the noise would come from cheap transmission fluid? Or would it sound on all gears? Since the wannabe guy I doubt put something good in.

Man, this is a tough one. Are you sure that there is fluid in the trans?

Judging by the wannabe guy, I believe the gears are there since the car can actually shift. It was taken today to change the transission oil with the local porsche guy. I mentioned the Redline 75-90 but he says that here in PR due to the hot climate he feels it does not work that good as in the states.
