We had a diverse group of mostly Porsches and Ferraris with a Lotus, AMG and Maserati thrown in for good measure. Ed Harrison from Temecula put this together fairly informally, but we had over 20 cars arriving early for a run up Palomar Mtn, up through Mesa Grande and ending up at Leonesse Cellars in Temecula for a tour, tasting and lunch. It was an awesome day starting cool with some fog and finishing sunny in the 70's. I think I was at about 170 miles on this jaunt.
As usual, we climbed Palomar on S. Grade Rd, which is basically what the Europeans know as a "Hill Climb". That is where individual cars would race up the mountain for time. The difference was, we weren't timing. Other than that, it is pretty much the same. We climb to 6000 ft up a very windy road in under 10 miles. Then, you go down the back side which takes you back down, only over a longer distance, so a few more straights and valleys.
Except for Ruby and a nice Ferrari 308, and a couple of 355's it was all newer hardware, but they all enjoyed their cars to the fullest. Nothing broken and no tickets.
Many wives showed up at the winery, and we had a nice meal and drank a small amount of good wine.
