I think Griffiths has the best products, but probably is the most expensive. His service and follow through is the best. I cherry picked several other vendor's products, used my old hoses which were good. I stayed with R12 which I think gives superior cooling. However I have a source for cheap refills. Here's an article I wrote that's posted on the Pelican Web Site for my installation.

Bottom line there's a lot of ways to achieve cold air for our cars, some of it is directly proportionate to the amount of money you want to spend. In my case I did a lot of the work myself, none of it is very hard, just take your time...

I have the full Rennaire system plus Kheul Center Vent. 93 degrees ambient from Mid April to Mid September here in Houston. Hell even today on October 29 its 85 degrees and humid outside. Was about 2k. Run 134a. No need for R12 if you have a good system. The only upgrade i am going to make now is a high output blower motor (another 300 dollars). I get 38 degrees at the vents, with 90 degree ambients. The high output blower will seal the deal. It is still alittle warm without it. I did all the work myself. Good luck.

Any guys in Tampa redo their AC? Have a shop do it or do it yourself?

I heard you need to re-run the lines (Dirty pain in the butt job, but the R-134 leaks out of the old R-12 lines.

Default A/C Upgrades...

This is a never ending subject, and I don't think there is any one perfect answer. It's nearly like arguing which motor oil is best. There are at least 3 after market suppliers of 911 A/C equipment, Rennaire, Retro-Aire, and Griffiths.

You can search the Pelican web site for air conditioning upgrades and find reams of information on all of these suppliers.

Also you'll find extensive information on the pros and cons of R12 and R134, plus the alternative freons.

Here's a tech tip that I wrote, and by no means is the last word on the subject.

I had my A/C redone in Feb. here in Dallas to prepare for the Summer. Rennaire front condensor, Rennaire evaporator, Retro Air evap. blower, new hoses, still R-12, under belly condensor, under dash center vent. My car is frosty cold. The real test is when we start to get into the 90+ temps. It has only been 80 once or twice so far. Car is a weekend toy. Dallas Euro Cars did all of the work. Ask for Jim Lennington.
