Default Straight Pipe vs Muffler

Let's talk performance and look. Let's look at our options:

1-Running a "Y" tube going to the right side and another one going to the left side of the car.

2-Running a straight tube to the right side of the car and a wategate tube to the left side just like Fabspeed muffler combo but without the muffler.

3-Running a small magnaflow type to the the right side of the car and a wastegate pipe to the left side.

4-Zork tube with a dual square end pipe.

I am trying to make the most HP and having a nice look at the same time.
The zork Tube is on the car now. Your expertise and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You'll get some replies if you post this on the turbo forum.

I thought he was a great character, actually. Oh wait, that's Zorg. Nevermind.

I did a set of true duals without any crossover / x / h pipe in a supercharged V6 application once, long tube headers, Flowmasters. It sounded HORRIBLE with any kind of throttle, like 2x 3-cylinder Geo Metros without an exhaust at WOT. Magnaflow mufflers were a better choice on my application back then, but I also liked Bullet brand's sound. The duals setup on mine definitely made power (419 wheel hp), but I hated the sound.

I would look to those who have BTDT for some advice before trying to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes when you do that you end up with a square wheel.

Our opinions would be apples to oranges. Not many run straight pipes on 911's-if they do, they go back to some form of muffler. A Turbo'd motor would be a different story.

A boosted application is a totally different animal than a naturally aspirated one. Results will also vary car to car.

I have a Fabspeed Pre-Muffler, and a Fabspeed Muffler Bypass - about as straight out as you can get. A) It's loud; B) I get a lot of popping from the exhaust from the lack of backpressure and the rich condition of my setup. I love the mean sound though. I usually run this setup a couple of weeks in the spring, and a couple in the fall.

Daily stuff, I run the Pre-Muffler with an M&K muffler. Power-wise, there's very little if any difference. I will only occasionally get light popping. Now, if this was a boosted car, I would bet money that the max numbers would be better open-exhaust.

Stock muffler completely mutes any exhaust pops.

Again, apples to oranges - routing is different, application is different, gains are different.

Oh, I thought he was talking about Floyd R. Turbo.

I just like saying Zork.

I've run just about every combination of bypass available on our cars; cat bypass, muffler bypass, Euro premuffler (for sale by the way), all of which I've run with and without a muffler. I now run straight pipes but my car is a race car with a welded cage, fire system, and I wear earplugs at the track.

FWIW, my favorite exhaust was the stock cat with the final muffler deleted. It was much louder than stock, but not obnoxious and had great popping and cracking on the decel. Straight pipes are much too loud for a street car.
