Mileage is not as good as CIS, especially under full throttle, however if everything is properly jetted and driven conservatively, it can do pretty well on a freeway.

Hi Steve,

I'm a few years late to this thread but it is relevant to me now. I do a lot of DE in Seattle with a '78 Targa, 3.0, CIS, 9.5 compression Ratio, 964 cam, SSI exhaust. The car is fast through corners (might be faster with better driver) but when we launch out of corners, my HP deficit is pretty apparent. I expect the newer cars to rocket ahead but the older cars that do this all seem to be running carbs. I've been told (never confirmed on a Dyno) that I'm making between 205 - 210 hp with my current setup. What is realistic gain by adding PMO's. More by upgrading cam too? Prefer not taking to twin plugs.
