Default Purchase Advice appreciated (please) 1972 911T

I'm considering going to see this car. Can anyone with some experience with these early model 911's help me out? How does this car look to you? What about the price? What should I check on? Does the 3.2 engine lower the value?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Look at the pictures, it's a beautiful car.

That's a very nice car. A couple of observations:

It's a "T" which is the least valuable of the early cars.

Rust is almost always an issue with these cars so be very cautious especially when the car has been repainted.

Nice engine swap increases the pleasure of owning and driving the car but most likely decreases the value of car in the eyes of a collector.

I think it's overpriced. Might be worth $25 if there's no rust under the paint and the rebuild was done right with all receipts. Of course it would cost you more than that to recreate this car but, sadly, that's how it works!

Looks like a nice, fun car, but I agree that it is over priced. A very similar car was offered in our area (Northern NJ) for sale in 2007 for $35k. The price was lowered to $30k....then $28k...then $25k and it finally sold for $20k in the spring of 2009.

Koni rear shocks + who knows what in front (probably worn out). SC trans + 3.2 motor without clutch cable/linkage upgrade - what a shame! That trans looks like it's already starting to leak/seep a little. Old brake system.

Some good ideas, some not so good.

Agree with Bob. It's a nice looking car (except for those ghastly speakers) but a car with an engine/transmission swap is a big unknown from the buyer's perspective. Was it done right or not. Who knows. I wouldn't be inclined to give the seller the benefit of the doubt. It certainly reduces the value of the car. Won't be easy to sell.
May be worth a bit more than 20 if the mechanical work was actually done right and the car is relatively rust free. 39? Heck no.
Just my 2 cents.

Not only that, but it's no longer a "'72". Hence, the value that's gone away with the original engine and trans has to be made up somewhere, and I'm not seeing that with this car. Maybe a closer look would change my mind, but...

way over-priced in my opinion...terrible original seats, no door boxes or map pockets which can easily cost up to 1000 dollars, wrong period radio and ancillaries and really wrong looking speakers front and rear. i doubt that it would command anywhere near that price when the longhood craze was at its peak a while back. it is a t and in a not so rare color!

Er - don't know how you guys will takes this - it is no longer a 1972 T, so many changes that in the UK this would be seen as a somewhat strange beast with a very limited market. We like to see originality in our early cars. The only sort of heavy modification seen as acceptable would be to convert a T to an RS but not to make up a bitsa like this. Guess things are different over there!
