Default Pelican August Wine Tour Beware!

The August 14th "Pelican Wine Tour" the weekend of the Laguna Seca Porsche
historics plans a drive south on Carmel Valley Road (G16) to essentially HWY 101,
a distance of about 50 - 60 miles to the winery. This road is basically a one lane
road for two way traffic in many parts and as such is very dangerous. Besides this,
the road is very rough with many blind corners. The road for even a good sport bike
motorcycle rider can be challenging and dangerous with dirt & rocks on the road.
A safer drive to the winery is to drive east on Hwy 68 and then south on 101.

Bottom line: Avoid the drive or drive extremely carefully avoiding those that consider
the drive a 'fast rally' to the end.

Did somebody just kick the rock that you've been hiding under, Loren?

I've driven this road many times. It's like many of the local country roads and as such you have to drive it with some caution.

What's the point of you post, Loren? Kinda negative. Have you posted your concerns about the route on Pelican?

The folks working with us to organize this tour have done this many times previously with no incidences. In addition, the tour organizers ran the route recently to check for dangers and obstacles a few months ago. They are also going to run the route next week to make sure that nothing has changed. We will be departing from Carmel in multiple organized groups, led by "tour leaders" who will control the speed of the group heading on the route. If anyone is concerned regarding the route, they can easily take the 101 Highway instead, and meet us at about noon on Friday at the winery.

In general, it should be a very fun-filled afternoon, and a great weekend at Laguna!

For more information on the tour, please see our official website: http://www.pelicanparts.com/winetour/

Oh, and just announced today, we'll have Tony Callas and Bruce Anderson giving presentations on site. Tony will be showing his famous behind-the-scenes LeMans video, and Bruce will be giving a presentation regarding the new edition of his book, "The 911 Performance Handbook".

It's great to hear the reality, Wayne. I wish I could come but it's a pretty long drive for me. I know that you will host a fun - and safe - event.

I live in Carmel Valley, it's a great road for a drive with beautiful scenery. It is about 41 miles from Carmel Valley Village to Greenfield/101 hwy. I see lots of very high end cars enjoying this road throughout the year. Have fun!

No gas, no service, no stores, no cell service... use the bathroom before you leave and bring a bottle of water!!!

Haha cal44, whole new light on that name O.o

Although having lived in both upstate and city NY, there's a world of difference in driving mentality.

I'll check with the Niagara area PCA if there are any plans for a wine tour similar to pelicans for us northeasters :-)

That area of California is very dangerous. I think the tour will be safe, but any time you are in the area, you should drive with extra care. My sister lives not far away, and we always hear of horrific wrecks. It just seems like the region from Santa Maria all the way up to Salinas and Hwy to I-5 is just claims so many lives.

Be ready for earthquakes and meteorites also. You can never be prepared enough.
