Having bought and sold nearly 2 dozen air cooled 911's over the past 12 or so years and also a seller of new p-cars I will just offer my opinion, you can decide what that opinions worth. I would doubt very much this car would sell for 30k today tomorrow or even in 2010. Also having spent 20 years on Wall St my opinion on the economy is that when the recovery takes hold its going to be very gradual and 2010 is not going to be a huge year. In addition things like “fun” cars with very little true collectability are not going to rebound all that much or fast.

On the prices from ‘Excellence” or any source similar, the day they show up at peoples doors with cash offering to buy cars at the prices they put out there is the day that you can use their guides as fair value.

IMHO this is a nice 22 to 25k dollar car. The phone dials have an appeal to the guy who wants an all original car.

Yeah if it were an '87 with a G50 tranny, may be you can get to the $25k range. Otherwise, it will be tough to get much more than 20k in this market. No one is willing to part their cash for a toy car with little collectability potential. They made a lot of them in 1986. I wish you the best of luck. It is a beautiful car. It is great car just to pass it on to you or the grandkids unless your dad really needs the cash.

If it is in great shape, I'd bet you'll get 25K, maybe a bit more. Just look around, if you can find a nicer example for less you'll know you're too high. 86' was a great year. Updated dash vents, lowered seats, third brake light plus other goodies. Last year of the 915. You'll find some people looking only for G-50s but don't get caught up in that, each year 84-89' has a bit higher resale price. If it had black Fuchs you'd have sold it already.

You'll find people like me who were only interested in finding a low mile car. I bought my 86' cab about 7 years ago with 28K. It has 41K now, is in great condition, no leaks, no problems the whole time.

I would say...wait to sell it. If you put Fuch wheels on it....id say its worth between 26k-28k in a good market. Dont sell it for 20k unless he needs the money. I have seen ones here in CT fetch mid 20's currently with higher miles...so dont listen to everyone on here..its got alot going for it.

Thanks for the kind words. And yes this is one of those rare used cars with no leaks that will not need much if any money put into it after purchase becides the regular maintanance that every car needs.

We are talking about a time capsule here and I do not think my Dad is planing to allow it to go for anything less then it is really worth. He is not selling it because he needs the money.

"less than it is really worth" becomes your only problem. If your father thinks it is truly worth no less than say 27,000 or so, and you do not get that offer, then keep it. True value is usually based upon what cash you can get from some one else, for what you have.
If I had the car and did not need the money, and there was no overriding emotional situation with the car, I would keep it. IF, this is indeed the lost decade of economic melt down with hyper inflation to come, as many think, then futures of P car is best seen on the down side. Many stocks sold 2 years ago can now be bought at half price. Homes sold 3 years ago can be bought at 25% to 40% off that price. The job market for those who are potential buyers continues to contract.

I wish you the best of fortune in getting a good price---- it is indeed a wonderful car.

It's simply what the buyer is willing to pay,......and those variations (albeit similar among those impacted by this economic nightmare) are, suredly, wide. You may just find the person who is not impacted by the market and is ready to buy a Porsche, not worrying about dickering with +/- 5K (don't care...)

Go for it and taste the waters.

I thought this car was already sold to a dealer, or on consignment for 33900.

We are selling the car and Paul Miller has it up on consignment because he has another car on order (2010 GT3 to be delivered in September or October) through them.

Best of luck on what appears to be an extremely well maintained car. As I recall from 1986, the Phone Dial wheels were the standard wheel of the time, while the Fuchs was the more expensive option that most dealers opted for their spec. cars. It looks like one of the nicest 86 cars around. This economy is the pits!

Thank you.

We already have a couple people looking at the car but nothing definitive yet. And Yes the Phone Dials were the wheels that came on the car. Dad was never a fan of the Fuchs. He originally was going to put the gold BBS on the car but then liked the look of the phone dials when the car came in.

If anyone is interested in the car or knows anyone who might be interested just let me know. Or give my Dad (Gary) a call at 973-216-6557

Nice car, I for one really like the Phone Dials, something a bit different. I was curious as to when the odometer was replaced and what the reason was and if the documentation is available for it.

MLK118s,

The odometer has never been replaced in this car, that is the correct original mileage (about 33,510) and he is the original owner. It has been meticulously maintained and he has all documentation for the car including the original window sticker.
