Default Water Leak

I can't remember the last time I drove my '85 911 in the rain as it just doesn't happen, but this week I am down my daily driver and I have been driving the 911 to work. Yesterday it poured for most of the day and while driving the ol' 911 I noticed it has a leak, it is coming from above the right-rear window. My sunroof has trouble closing all the way, it will close, but the back right corner won't come all the way up leaving an 1/8 inch gap. I believe this is where the water is coming in and I need to get this fixed.
My question is how do I repair the sunroof and get it to come all the way up when I close it? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need to new sunroof cables and guides. I would get that done...and have the tracks cleaned while your at it.

New or used? Try Parts Heaven, LA Porsche Dismantlers or dC Automotive....new, the usual suspects like Pelican or GPR....

Pull the inner interior piece and make sure the cable adjusters (that's what I call them) are in the correct position. Sounds like the cable is not pulling forward enough to get the rear to come up. Or you may need new cables. Do the simple stuff first.

I am guessing you mean the inside panel on the sunroof? How do I go about pulling it off? Just pull? Thanks

The panel on the bottom of the sunroof comes off. It is held in by plasticpushon buttons. Don't try to just pull it out, but slide the sunroof back and inch or two and pop the front buttons out. The front of the interior of the sunroof will sag a little. Look up in the cavity ( may have to slide the roof back a little more) and you'll see what's up in there. The cables are attached to the sunroof and on most I have done, the cable should be at a 90 degree angle on the pivot point. I'll see If I can fing a reference in my books.

Jay, do you have a copy of the 84-89 Carrera shop manuals? If you do, all you need to know is in section 601. There's a part on adjustments and also a section on how to remove & replace it. If you don't, I'll send you a copy of my file, but it's about 300 MB. Let me know.
