Default Early 911 as a Daily Driver?

Does anyone here drive a 73' or earlier 911 as their daily driver? How practical (or impractical) would it be to use one daily?

I enjoy driving my 356 T5 coupe, but in the Texas heat it's not something I could endure on a daily basis. Is the air circulation decent enough on the early 911's?

Like your 356 an early 911 does not have face or body level ventilation. You can crank the fan to blow on your feet, or through the defroster. It's better than nothing but not by much.

There are some aftermarket AC systems that used the knee pads as vents. I suppose you could get one of those and hook it up to the fan.

AC is another option. Spend thousands and eventually you could chill the interior.

I put two Ford vents in my dash and hooked them up to the fresh air blower. It's not pretty but it does help a lot in hot weather.

I couldn't use the words "Porsche" "AC" and "Practical" all in the same sentence, let alone advocate one for daily use in Texas heat. I think your heat is worse than ours, and there are many days when you just have to park the Porsche and take your American car to work.

This is from a lifelong Porsche nut, who drove 356, 914-6, and 911 as daily drivers.

My 73 had very good air conditioning -- but there wasn't all that much of the 1973 components contributing to that. You need a lot of aftermarket parts to get the early cars' AC anywhere near the level of modern expectations. If you're set on preserving the car in its original form, then the answer is a pretty easy 'no.'

I have a 69 targa, I drive it pretty much everyday. If you are concerned with air flow prohaps this would be a good option.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone who really loves the sound of their Porsche.

just my .02 cents.

In the mid 90's I used to use my 73 s/r coupe as a daily driver and loved it! Never in the snow or when I knew the weather would be bad.
At the time I had a spare 2.7 CIS motor in it and the only issue I had was keeping the Corvettes & 5.0 stangs off my azz! They all wanted to run with the old 911.

I don't think an older 911 is a good car for a DD in Texas and I certainly wouldn't want to put AC in one. Can you buy a cheap beater?

Try these guys: www.vintageair.com/

They are not Porsche specialist but it doesnt matter, AC is AC.

Plus, they are located in Tejas, SA to be exact.

Put the original motor back in and most vettes and 5.0 guys would get a surprize.
I never could figure it out, now some people do silly stuff when they see a 911 in traffic. But the mustang guys can't read T-U-R-B-O on the deck of a 911 - I never had a problem with the Camero/trans am crowd. My younger days in 930s were great, but now they're not worth the boost.
