Default '84 coupe factory sport suspension option

Anyone know what exactly this package came with? How would it compare with Bilstein HD, Bilstein Sport or the recommended HD front and Sport rears in terms of ride quality/drive-ability, firmness, rebound, etc.?
Tnx

Thanks iceman. Do you know if there was anything more to the factory sport suspension option in '84 e.g. different size torsion bars, sways, etc. or was it just Bilstein sport shocks on the 4 corners?

Option #474 was for Bilstein shocks only, they were HD shocks, "Sport" Bilsteins are an after market item. Other items, such as Sport Seats, Sport Steering Wheel, Limited Slip Differential, etc. were all individual options. There were no options available for different T-bars, anti-roll bars, bushing material, etc.

The option code you really want is 220. It's 40% LSD and 100% awesome.

I believe that 40% was the only ratio that came with option 220. Is this ratio better for the track or for all-weather street driving?

Do you guys remember the opening to "Magnum, P.I." in which Tom Selleck looks at the camera, then hits the gas in the 308, peels out with TWO nice tire marks in the side of the road, then pulls nice and straight on down the road?

That scene is from the original pilot, and is seared into my memory. It's a clear demonstration of the benefit of LSD. A semi locked differential probably helped too.

I was told best for street. the 80% would be way to harsh. It would be like the old chevy stepside my grandfather had that didn't like to turn corners without lighting them up.

i think LSD does didly in a straight line .... it is for cornering , especialy in the wet , and also decelerating into corners where an LSD will shine.

Default Sport suspension. "Special Order Wishes" code 050

I think the answer you got is not correct. Porsche has developed a sport suspension package for the 84-89 Carrera. It is listed in two "special order wishes" catalogues that I have, one from 84 and one from 87. The code for the package was SOW050.

From 84 SOW program:
"Sport Suspension Type 911, Bilstein Shock Absorber with Sport setting, Lowered suspension, larger anti-roll bars".

In the 87 catalogue it s a picture of the kit showing two rear T-bars, two anti-roll bars, two yellow bilsteins for the rear and two shock absorber inserts for the front. The size of the T-bars etc. is not mentioned . It is interesting to see that Porsche only installed larger T-bars for the rear.

I don't believe that applies to cars sold new for USA consumption. Because of EPA and DOT certification requirements, any changes beyond color combinations and similar would have to be reclassified.

Dealer option charts have no information regarding the SOW program, and there is no technical information, that I'm aware of, that covers different alignment settings that might be needed.

Also, there is no mention in the USA PET for replacement parts for a "Sport Suspension," only replacement HD Bilsteins which are essentially original equipment on M 491 and Turbo cars.

Default scan from "porsche exclusive" brochure, sport suspension

I don't know if the SOW050 was available for US customers, maybe not. I have scanned a couple of pictures from the "Porsche Exclusive" brochure from 1987 to show that it was actually an option from Porsche to get the 84-89 Carrera with a sports suspension. I was not aware of this myself either until I bought the "Exclusive" brochure on ebay. I have now also read about this option on some german 911 forums.
I should really liked to know the exact specification of this option, size of T-bars etc.

Special Wishes is a whole different animal. Whatever you wanted to pay for, you could probably get.
