This is not a chip thread
If you had the following problem....What would you do?
Let's say you had a 24 pin DME from an '87 911 and you wanted to use and already had in your possession a 28 pin chip.
Would you:
A) Purchase a 24 pin chip?
B) Send in the DME and have a 28 pin socket installed?
C) Other ideas?
(I'm a big boy, let's hear the ideas.)
...and while we are at it what is the cost of the DME upgrade?

I was going to suggest that we could go to Radio Shack, buy a bunch of wires and solder and stuff. And then set the whole mess on fire as a sacrifice to the fabled Porsche god of DME engineering. But calling Steve Wong might be quicker.
And if that is Peter Zimmermann, then I guess I'll google him more often too.

Hey, what ever happened to Russel Barry and his multiboard setup? Did that thread just die? Seemed like a promising product. How about picking up a good used 28 pin DME so then you have the hi-perf setup and keep the stock 24 pin chip and DME as a backup? You could then just swap DME's at smog time without having to open the box and disturb the chip every two years.

IMHO, option B is the best one as that gives you access to a lot more maps in your software.
Finding someone to do that for you might be the challenge, depending on whose software you have. I know Steve W. does that for a small fee but I think thats only for his products.
Can't hurt to ask around, tho,...

Well then, that about covers all the logical options. I'm glad we kept it civil.
If this was a chip thread I'd tell TTO that Russell is doing fine last I talked to him. IB has refused to tell him or I why he has been banned. I'm guessing Roger Penske would like to sell you the Penske chip.

Just when I thought we had rounded the corner I find myself not only out smarted in both senses of the word, but left in a condition many of you like to see me....speechless. I'll have my day Mr. Z.

If Branson & Penske do something together, does that mean that the Brawn F1 team will become the Brawn/Branson/Penske/Virgin/Uranus Formula 1 team?
