that's like asking what's a good oil ! I think all manufacturers make good tires for ths year if your running 16s.
Personally I am a bridgestone guy ..
I miss my Bridgestone S-03s. I need to install the Fuzion tires on the rear of mine. I would say for performance, the Pole Position Bridgestones are great (S-O2 and S-O3) if you have the 225s on the rear.
Kumho MX for 205's & 225's. Cheap & sticky (damn, sounds like an old girlfriend of mine). The Kumho rears are good for 15k from the looks of what's left of mine... there's maybe a good summer's worth of driving left on them now.
I'm running 225's & 245's, Hankook Ventus R-S2's & they are pretty nice.
I will very likely be selling the 16x6 / 16x8 5-spoke wheels with the aforementioned Kumhos so keep an eye on the classifieds.
Ed mentioned the Eagle F1 for high performance street use. I'd say they are probably one of the few left for 245/16 wheels. I think the cheaper tires have much more flexible sidewalls from the looks of it. If you need 225/50/16s, then I came across a Bridgestone tire (can't remember the model) that replaces the RE750 in a Z-rated tire. These may be another good tire, but I can't say since I didn't buy them.
I have Pirelli P Zero Neros... They stick like glue in the dry and are better than the Bridgestones I had before in the rain... Depends on how you drive, where you drive, where you are located, etc... what is good on the street is probably not very good on the track... what is good in dry summer weather is probably not as good as others with alittle moisture on the ground...
My Toyo Proxes4 are know to cause my car to "burn out" according to the Ontario PD.
Yeah, I had a set of the Toyo 4-seasons. Not exactly Mr. Grippy. Of course, Cooper 70,000 mile tires are AWESOME for burnouts on any car, from a Yugo on up.
I really like the Kumho MXs ...use them on my 993 for three+ swaps now I like them that much. My SC has Yoko AVS sports ...nice, and work well on the track, but overpriced IMHO. I'd go Kumho or Toyo, personally. Tire sizes get iffy, though, as variety in 16s are getting more difficult to come by.
