A Pet Peve and a fun little project ..
One thing that has always bugged the crap out of me is the fact my power antenna goes up when I put on the radio . Of course on my car it is on the front right fender so it is not like i can't see it . Don't get me wrong , that doesn't bug me. What bugs me is the fact they can make a power antenna go up when you turn your radio on, but it stays up when you put a disc in ... gota fix that ...
Fortunately I had a bosch switch in the dash from a po that did nothing . i think he had a remote radar detector or something. So i crawled under took the signal line to the power antenna , cut it and routed it to the switch ....
perfect .. now when I switch to Cd i can hit the button and the antena goes down as it does not see the 12v high signal ... MUCH better .....
also i just noticed today I giant splotch of touch up paint on the front bumper just above the rubber .. I must have dropped it there without noticing when doing a touch up .. looked like a giant brown bird crap ...
sat there with a bucket of soapy water and my yellow clay and I am happy to report total success. don't even need to rewax and looks perfect ( even though i will polish and wax anyway ..... )
have fun all ..

At least your antenna goes up and down. Mine is up all the time and is on the drivers side fender. I was told that the power ones were installed on the passenger side and the fixed ones on the drivers side. If i want to switch it over, I will have a hole to patch. Oh well, my radio is alway on when I drive so it only really sucks when I want to put a cover on the care. Maybe i can find a good one that I can close manually. Maybe mine closes manually, but I have never tried. Wohoo, another project!

Yup, my old Sony unit lowered the antenna when a disc was put in. So did my older Blaupunkt. I prefer the mechanical antenna to the later amplified ones that were mounted in the windshield, even if the antenna must be cleaned and lubed.

thanks guys .. i think the switch might be a little cheaper than a whole new car ... or for that matter less painfull tham launching it off turn two at mosport .. because that is as far as I would make it before my tallent ran out ..

When my factory Hirschmann antenna gave up I bought a new Harada Amplified Universal Power antenna off of e-bay for $52.00. Pretty close to the original antenna. I wired it so I both raise and lower it with a switch since if and when I use the radio it's for CD's anyway. The Porsche cabin is not the best concert hall with a sport muffler anyway...
BTW, be sure to strap down the bottom of the antenna body to the inner fender well, do not rely on just the fender mounting hardware. Ask me how I know...
