Default Pics from the Porsche Museum

We just returned from our vacation. We visited London, Paris, and then drove around Germany for a week. We used Zuffenhausen as our base for the last four days of our trip.
I was scheduled for a Factory Tour, but the work force was out on strike that morning protesting the way the government is handling the downturned economy. Porsche will not allow tours while the line isn't operating, so I was SOL.

Figured I'd post a link to the album instead of putting them all in here.

Porsche Museum Photos

....and the reason for the tour being canceled....

cheers

Tnx
Camera is a Pentax istDL, about 4 years old.
It's has a 6 M pixel CCD.
Bought it because it would take all my existing Pentax lenses.
I think it's the first digital SLR they came out with.

cheers

I'm sorry the tour was cancelled. It's really a treat to see these pics. I often will "forget" to take pictures when on vacation, I hardly take photos for myself. Its really nice of you to capture the moment and share with us.

For those of you who would enjoy more of these pics, I have finally gotten around to uploading a bunch to Picasa.

Thanks again. That 917 engine... the horizontal fan drags like 55 HP (IIRC)out of the motor. Then its all gear driven from the center of the crank... a lot of internal drag and still wild amounts of output.
I hope you had fun.

No we didn't. Thought the new museum would take care of my Porsche fix.

Hope to find some old junk yards around Stuttgart as well. Wishful thinking....

I didn't see many vintage Porsches on the road in Germany.
You may be in luck with your junkyard theory. They gotta be somewhere.
Not too many vintage anythings on the road over there.
Automotive safety standards must be really high.
I did see a guy puttering along in the slow lane on the Autobahn in a rusty 1980's era Cadillac tho.
He sure looked out of place. Hahaha.

Yeah, my wife is Swedish and her cousins always order parts for their vintage Olds and Chevys and have them shipped to us here in the US. Then we bring them over when we visit. Save's them 50% or more! I am hoping to find the same deal in Germany for the parts I need!

Ian,

Amazing pictures! I visited the old Museum in 2008 and it was very small (one single room with 11-14 cars). This new one appears to be INCREDIBLE. Should be visiting it now at the end of September: can´t wait....

Levdev,

Regarding finding a Porsche junk yard, you will have more luck in the US than in Germany due to the strict environmental rules (non-running cars must be stored on top of a sealed/impervious hard surface and not be in contact with the ground to avoid soil contamination) over there and also because of the expensive real estate. Asides from this, due to the strong Euro and VAT, Porsche parts today are normally cheaper in the US than in Germany.

Good luck,
SLFan
