Ah, if only it was that easy. Turns out the homeowner, the owner of the Mustang (long story, see Pelican if interested) and the 911 are three different people. Two are related. So here is how it breaks down:

Homeowner's son owns the Mustang.
Homeowners son's friend owns the 911.

I have been in contact information with the homeowner, and she has (hopefully) passed on my "interest to purchase" email to the 911 owner. So far no response, so today it is time to start plan "B." I copied the registration information from the 911 glovebox (last on the road in 1995) and have a friend in the insurance industry tracking down the current contact information. If that fails, plan "C" is to start calling all the folks in PA with the same name (there are about ten candidates so not too bad of a search). No plan "D" yet...

So after I finally get to the right person, the real buying process can begin. Since all of this just happend over the weekend, I do not want to appear too eager since it could hurt my chances at a fair price.

So much is still uncertain!

ok ok, I got a plan:

I show up, offer a 6-pack of beer for the "Porsch".

Then you show up with $3K in cold hard cash. Owner sees your offer, and accepts.

Whatta ya think?

Hey, it worked for me...but the car was a '67 Camaro, and both the buyer & seller were 18-19 years old. (So it was a LONG time ago.)

Seriously, here's a good quote from don gilbert over at Pelican:

"....would like to know about the 'stang too, that car has rally wheels that were standard on the GT, opt. on all others, look at the 5th digit in ser#, A=289 4v...c=289 2v...K=286 hi po with solid lift cam and lots of other goodies! Been out of the 'stang business for a while, but sold my mom's '65 convert 20+ years ago for over 20, any 65-68 convert is worth restoring, cost about half as much as the 911...."

The Mustang has potential, but I am going to keep my eyes focused on the 911 - that is what I know and love. But if that falls thru, and it certainly could - the 'stang will get another look.

Ok, try a 6-pack of Duff beer on the 'stang owner, and a nice Merlot on the Porsche owner.

Either way he is going to know that you want it. If you wait he'll think "this guys been trying to track me down for weeks, he must really want it" and he will have more time to find someone else who wants to buy it.

It's unfortunate that it didn't wind up being a 1972 911S. The 911T was quite common and not that special. It's in deplorable condition and that's the way it needs to be presented to the owner. You're doing him a favor taking it off his hands. You will wind up spending a lot to get that thing back to any sort of reasonable condition. Be prepared for that. And a lot of time. When you're done, you have a'72 T.

Yep, I was hoping after seeing the fuchs, S brakes and S front spoiler that I might have gotten _really_ lucky. Then I got to the decklid ...

On the other hand, I don't think I could afford it if it was an S. And this way I can build a nice E with S options

Well the early telethon results are in:

1 Disconnected Number (and I bet this is the guy from the address)
2 No Answers (no answer??? Doesn't everyone have voicemail?)
2 Left Messages

So I'll will be dialing to spend dollars again this evening...

Good luck with it!!

I got all excited once about a silver E coupe in pieces in a garage, spoke to the owner who sounded like he was going to hand it over for a fair price. He came back with an amount after he did some research on the current inflated asking prices of low km concourse examples. He knocked about 5% off those prices to cover the little things like full spray job, engine rebuild, reupholstery, MFI etc... It was really crushing!

I suspect the story will end with the owner seeing early 911 values (read: HIGH, 25k or so) and believing the car to be worth 10-12k and not understanding whatsoever the amount of work it will take to resurrect this early 911. I hope not!
