Well I can't see my tach without the offset spacer, so they offer some utility for tall people in addition to keeping one's fingers from hitting the dash.

Same here. I'm sure driver height and seat type (and position) are factors, but I had to rotate my tach before I had the offset spacer.

On the track, it's also a great way to reinforce where the wheel position is -- sort of like the white stripe some wheels have, but you don't have to look. It becomes very automatic to know when you're on center.
