Default widest 16" street tire available?

I'm thinking of upgrading my 8x16 fuchs to 9's and moving the 8's in front. Is there noticeable difference in appearance between the two. I know I could run 245's with the 9's. I now have 225's.
I could also have my current 7's in front and resized to 10's by TrueDesign. I know that tire choices are slim but just want to keep it that for now or just go with 17's from lindsey.

Does the oem fuchs 8x16's have the correct offset for the front?

What do you guys think? This will be an M491 application.

You need to pick the tires you want to look at or purchase. Then, look at the manufacturer's specs. You cannot just go on "245" or "255" on the comparison. I know for a fact that when I put new Advan Neovas on my 928, that in a given size, they were about 1" wider than the other brands I looked at. I'm not saying this is always the case (Advan being wider), but rather all manufacturers cross-sections are different.

What Ed says.

If you check Tire Rack, they have a specification list that gives tread widths, rolling radius etc.
this is a good start.
FYI- on my 911, which has SC flares on the back, for street I run F: 7x16 fuchs with 225/45-16;
and R: 8x16 with 245/40-16.
For track it runs F: 7.5x17 Fikses with 225/40-17; R: 9x17 with 255/40-17
*Note: The Yoko 048Rs fit just fine; the R888 i run now, i had to gently roll the fenders-
which goes back to what Ed said, each manufacturer will be different, for stated tire size.
Hope this helps,

Nick

and you can't put your 8's on the front unless they are 8" 951 fuchs that are 23.3 offset.

OP is asking about M491 fitment...not sure everyone noticed that.

M491's have spacers from the factory, no? So that will need to be figured in as well, whether you're using them or not.

Lindseys are very, very nice, btw.

Why stop at Lindseys? Jeff Alton is close to shipping his new 17" repros. Forged centers, rims pretty close to Fuchs in cross-section, and ultimately in about any size you want.

The key thing is that these centers are brand new machined forgings. With more and more stories of cracked Fuchs showing up, and the escalating cost of Fuchs for donors, it seems that the Lindsey's may not be the best option, considering we're talking similar money for both choices.

I never said they were the best option, only that they were very, very nice. I WILL say I prefer Lindsey over Trudesign as I've yet to hear of an offset or finish quality issue with Lindsey.

I watched the Alton thing for a while but got the 17" itch before they were ready. The lip thing he is doing looks great, but I have what I have now... oh well...
