Default Best Looking Wheels on a 911 ('84-'89)

I have a 1988 911 Carrera and I am thinking about making a change. I have polished chrome Fuchs and was considering a more updated look. I would appreciate any ideas and photos. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

DON'T DO IT!!! You absolutely have the best and most beautiful wheels for that era 911~!!!!! What are you thinking?? Get AWAY from that bad eggnog!!!!

(I would suggest 7s and 8s, however...)

My only preference over what you have is to leave the "rim" chrome, and black out the entire center including the paddle faces.

That said, Merry Christmas!

IMO, nothing beats fuchs, the only way to improve on them is to go with 7s and 8/9s.

CupIIs, Ruf Speedline 17s, BBS LM, Kenesis, Fikse, certain 'Champion' models.

Colour matched centres while keeping the chrome lip? I think that would look wonderful.

Oh, and in my personal opinion, ditch the bra.

Beautiful car. Leave it alone! No "updated" wheels. "Updated" tends to turn into "dated" quickly. And I agree with Neri, bra-less is better.

Nice looking Carrera.

And here's another opinion: absolutely no wheel looks better than Fuchs on a pre-1990 911.

If you want to change up your look, slap a Carrera decal on the side, in black, and put a ducktail spoiler on that bad boy. It'll give you a retro look (which dates more kindly than attempts at 'updating' -- go figure), and it's totally reversible if you change your mind.

And do get rid of the bra. Bras are uglier than stone chips. Remember those plastic slipcovers people used to put on their sofas?

One note: polished and chromed are two different things -- you can't have both at the same time. If those wheels are chromed, you might want to look into getting the chrome removed and getting the parts that aren't painted polished. I prefer the look of polished or anodized rims and petals, with the insets painted black like you have.

Even guys (like me) who can't run Fuchs should run wheels that look like Fuchs:

One more vote.....you cannot "upgrade" the look of Fuchs on a pre-89 911.

One thing you COULD do is fix your ride height. It looks like you've got air shocks in the back. A nice lowered look would give your car one of the best silhouettes known to mankind.

+1 to the 'keep the Fuchs' camp. Ditto on Pete's comment of blacking out the centers or Neri's suggestion of having them painted body color. I will likely get a set of Fuchs done in the latter style for my baltic blue baby down the road (after I get done with having to cover two mortgages).

If you really feel the need to go with something other than Fuchs, my personal opinion is that Ruf's look nice on a 3.2.

Also, another vote for losing the bra. Way too 80's.

I agree with everyone here. I've had Rufs on my car for a lot of years but as much as I love them, nothing looks as cool as a lowered 911 on Fuchs. I finally went out and got myself another set of Fuchs. Since you asked for options b/c YOU want an update, however, here's a shot of Rufs on my 911 and 930.
