[QUOTE]nice job, where did you have it done? did they take the glass out? if you don't mind me asking...cost?[/QUOTE
Let me detail some background and the cost and the painter. My son and I bought this 1983 911SC about 14 months ago for $8,000, 150K miles. It ran well, no rust or damage, but it was the gold paint that had had a reshoot and was in need. We got the Carrera tail and a new hood for it and took it over to get them painted the gold color. After some careful looking, the painter told us that there was no way it was going to look right without a total repaint. To fill in a little, I have been on the hunt for a year to get a black, silver, or grey Carrera. That did not happen so we decided that the SC would be a LONG time keeper and we would paint it the color we most wanted on a 911. This is 1985 Carrera Stone Grey.
Understanding the problems with a color change, it was not an easy decision. However, it is REALLY nicely done and gives my son the car he really wanted.
Painter:: Senic Paint in Costa Mesa, Ca is an old time/old school paint supply company. I have done business with them for 40+ years. They refered me to 1 Day Paint in Costa Mesa for a reasonable paint job a couple of years ago for the hood on the 911S. I went to 1 Day and talked to the manager, Juan, and found out that he does the family drivers for Senic. The job on the 911S was good and we went back with the SC.
The paint used was DuPont with a clear coat. The front glass came out; the rear was roped very well and it looks like it also came out. The hood was exchanged, the rear deck properly fitted, a couple of small dings out, and a rabbet hit below the bumper fixed. It took about 3 weeks and I check in and saw the progress. The cost with the good quality DuPont was $2,000.
With the used roll cage, whale tail, brakes etc, we have about $10, 800 in the car. We had bought the 5 point racing seats and harness set for the 911s so they are not a direct cost. We parted out a 1982 and ended up with a spare engine and tranny for about $1,000.
So, even with the present economy, I feel we still have a good value for the $ spent.
I am in Huntington Beach if anyone wants to see the car to see what kind of work can be done for that kind on $.

You get a lot of value in Socal for paint and body work. That probably would have cost at least 6k here.
Did the 2k include materials?

The price included the better DuPont non-water paint. Things are slow in SoCal and this is an amazing value. HOwever, this is a high volume shop and I think they do special cars at a loss to drum up other business. When ours was first shot but not buffed, a Cuda owner bought the same color/paint job because our car was there to look at.
