Hello all,
Well, the economic mess hits home – baby needs new shoes and the economy has moved price to the top of my requirement priorities. What do you folks recommend to strike a balance between:
Priority 1 – Cost (purchase cost and longevity)
Priority 2 – Performance (moderately aggressive street driving)
Priority 3 – Rain Performance (I’m in the Pacific Northwest)
2004 911
My current tires are:
Michelin Radial X (N1)
Front: 225/40 ZR 18
Rear: 285/30 ZR 18
Thanks in advance for any inputs!

On my 993, a daily driver, the Kumho MX ...I've been using this tire for several years now and it is a fabulous performer. Gets a bit of extra noise at the end of their lives, but not too bad. Great stick, though, good mileage, and even survived (very well, actually) a 90+ degree day at the track. What little rain we do get in SoCal I can tell you I had decent performance; nothing "scary" or unpredictable. Overall a stellar bang-for-buck tire in my experience ...so good that I have kept buying them.
That said, it is an "older" tire and there are some great new offerings. Do a search: the Sumitomo HTZ III (HTR? HTRZ?? ...can't remember but it is the III
) is getting lots of love from folks on this board. When my MXs are done, I'll likely try these out as they do sound like a good tire ...at least if you can trust folks from this board ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Well, I was in the same situation but with the 997 using 235x35x19 Michelins it was going to cost $300 per tire. Since I don't track and I am sunny SoCa...I bought a pair of (forgot brand) for $260!!!!.
Even the UPS fees is cheaper than paying taxes in CA... another punch for Tire Rack.

In a fit of cheapness, I put Fuzion ZRi's on my 1978 911. I had just bought the 911, and I didn't know if the alignment was good or not, so I went with cheap tires in case they scrubbed off in 2,000 miles. I'm actually very happy with them and would buy them again. They're a Bridgestone brand marketed more to the asian tuner market.
You can't go wrong with other second tier brands already mentioned: Kumho, Sumitomo, Hankook.
