I have a Carrera 3.2 and was heading down the Pelican Parts avenue until I remembered Motor Meister also has kits.

Who would you go for?

Since Pelican has several kits together to make a full rebuild whereas Motor Meister has a complete top and bottom rebuild kit, I am unclear which route to go.

Am I overlooking another outfit for a full rebuild kit?

PS - I don't care about MM's rebuilding past, just concerned with attention to detail for their kits.

Yeah, I understand MM's reputation (for engine rebuilds) but they don't make the parts for the engine rebuild kits.

The thing is, is this. I can get all the main bearings, rod bearings, bronze guides, Intermediate Shaft bearings, and even rod bolts (that I wont use, I am going with ARP) with MM's total rebuild kit for only $800.

For just the main/rod bearigs and rod bolts from Pelican, I would be getting close to that number.

Is MM's kit inferior parts? Is Pelican's superior?

Look at it this way. If there is a problem with the PP stuff do you think there will be a customer service issue? WHEN there is a problem with the mm stuff do you think there will be a customer service issue?

Mayo in the Dallas area is someone you might should talk to. As you may know, they are an all around shop and build some cutting edge engines/transmissions etc. I have bought stuff from them and had them rebuild some engine parts. They are also a stellar reference for accurate information. I usually talk to Tom who is a salt of the earth wizard.

Not sure, never dealt with MM. Were just talking about rebuild kits here, not having my motor rebuilt by them.

Should I still avoid them?

Do they offer rebuild kits? I am only interested in a kit, not a rebuild.

would not trust even parts from MM - they would surely use cheap junk if they could find it...

You know, under the description for MM, they list the same brands as Pelican. I am so confused. Could they really undersell Pelican that much?

Bob, you're saying that their kit may not be what it says? Have they been known to use different parts than they claimed to be using?

Because I can get an entire rebuild kit for $800 that includes expensive pieces like main bearings, conn rod bearings, 4 IMS bearings, rod bolts and nuts, valve guides and seals, timing chains, etc., etc. for the price of just the crankshaft bearings and rod bolts from Pelican.

To put things in perspective, it cost $1150 for undersized main bearings from Pelican. Thats $350 over the cost of the MM full rebuild kit.

I came from the water-cooled side, am I missing something so major that people wouldn't even consider buying from them even if they were to save a ton of money?

Tippy - as I said if something looks too cheap, be suspicious. Why not contact Wayne at PP and ask him why his kit is more expensive. Perhaps you are not comparing apples and apples. Maybe the PP kit has many more parts in it, needed parts perhaps?

Better pay close attention to Trader220's comment (and he's not referring to any rebuild).

I bet something would "come up" and you'd be screwed.

Hopefully one (or many) of the engine pros will post here and set you free...

...there certainly has to be a reason,..THAT'S 4 SURE. And I'll bet it's not margin.

.....patience,..the answer will come. My curiosity is peaked now...SUB'D.
