Whoops. Someone told me about a thread on Rennlist with some keywords - I searched and replied and I didn't even think to look at the date! My bad.

I'd rather have Wayne spending his time keeping Pelican Parts a well-oiled machine, than posting on RL. As an online retailer, their catalog is very thorough and detailed, and is pretty darn precise on whether something is stocked and where, or in very few cases, a special order. I've used them quite a lot through a couple of engine builds.

Yep, he spent a lot of time on the catalog. Back in the day, Automotion had a great (EXPENSIVE) color print catalog. Many people used it to price their used parts......every vendor at the swap meets had a copy.

Aside from all the boring MM busting it really is a potentially interesting thread.
I just went through a bearing education and was told by a reliable source ...
(The parts guy at a Porsche dealer;-) that there really is a difference in the metal content of their bearings vs. the competition.......more lead... thus the color difference.

I am sure Porsche is not making their own bearings I am sure they have a supplier.

Per the receipts of my work done on my Targa the PO purchased most of the parts for the rebuild from Pelican and the rest from EBS and the dealership.

Machine work was performed by Walt at competition engineering.

It is MM free

I like the rating system Wayne has on his site regarding similar parts provided by multiple suppliers.

Chris, I've regretted not trading cars with you every since you left that day and the reason I didn't was the MM rebuild. I didn't want to tell you that at the time, but the motor has worked out great for you. I'm happy for you and kicking myself for not doing the deal. It took a revived two year old Pelican thread to bring this up but hope it finds you well. The SC I wound up with has cost me a fortune and helped Wayne out some as well.

Automotion was awesome. I still have a catalog. Anyone remember Electrodyne?

I have considered starting a thread on a few issues I recently encountered with parts suppliers, quality, and a mechanics/customers responsability. I resealed my 924S motor earlier this year and applied the parts risk/reward quotient on a couple of items. 12k miles later - there are issues. Suffice to say I will be pulling the motor again soon. Nobodys fault but my own and the car runs great - I just returned from an 800 mile rount trip journey with no problems. However, there are some issues and those were in the back of my mind the whole way. I will be ordering from Pelican.
I wish the OP would chime in on what he finaly wound up with.

I remember Electrodyne. How 'bout P.B. Tweeks?

WB, I'm sorry to hear about the motor. I think any parts feedback would be ingriguing, as manf goes cheaper with sourcing from China.

Here is a thumbs up for Pelican. I used them when I was in BMW land and thought they were super easy to use. I have found the same so far since I am a Porsche newbie. I also like how a lot of their smaller part items qualify for free (or reduced) shipping if you purchase $XXX amount.

The 101 Porsche project book (next to Zimmermans book) is a permanent fixture on my living room coffee table.
