It's been a month or so since my cat bypass install (schnell). I can say that topend power increased a little bit and it sounds great at high rpms. I guess the engine can breathe better now.
I also took rusnak's advice about saving my cat just for smog, the bypass is alot cheaper than buying a new cat. Thx

I have heard these cars (SC, 3.2) do not need an O2 sensor hooked up at all.
This was told to me by a very reputable Porsche motorsports mech. Is this not true?

Excluding the guys in the overly regulated mexifornia.

997for40, I'm glad you did that. I've been looking into this recently because I had to get a new catalytic converter (old one had gone bad).

The guys with "check engine lights" or OnBoard Diagnostic I or II cars (OBD II) are royally screwed as of Jan 1, 2009. Their cats are going to be way more expensive. As it is, new California Air Resources Board requires testing and certification that will make new cats for non-OBDII cars more expensive as well.

What's this all mean? I dunno, but I think that means a still functioning cat just got way more valuable. I'm saving mine. I'm glad that I can run a cat bypass without OBD taking a dump on me.

A cat from Porsche is about $1K, and aftermarket a little less than half that and going up.......

(side note) I'll be taking my Chevy Astro in for an OBDII install in the morning. Was quoted as high as $800, but going with the $190 QUOTE.

The cat-bypass was a real plus on my car. It's due for a smog check so the cat will be going back on....then off again.

Screw it all....go all the way...put headers on her and really open her up. I was happy with my Fabspeed piece for about 6 months, then went to headers.

/\/\/\ Bla, bla, bla....Ed, you are always showing off. What are you going to do when the tags come up due in CA? Don't tell me you kept a 5' x 10' cemetary plot in Texas so you could register it there?

I am lucky, the new province I moved to doesn't have any sort of emissions testing.
