Default For giggles, I got on Autotrader and pulled up some G50 911's ...

They have a bunch of listings for 40k to 70k mile cars from $28k to $35k. Are these guys smoking some wacky tobackee, or do I just not realize the value of my car? I'd like to think the latter .

BOth... But asking prices mean nothing. I don't think anything is selling right now. These folks will struggle to get those prices.. since the same money can buy a heck of a lot of other Porsches, let alone other brands. Maybe they were bought with the thought they could sell them for profit. And they could, but the economy tanked on them in the meantime and no doubt they need to free up some cash for their adj. rate loans

As I've been looking for a car myself, I can tell you a story about almost all of those cars. Most have been there for quite awhile, and, in most cases, for good reason.

Just as an FYI, try to find a low mileage, excellent condition G50 coupe for less than $28k. They ain't out there, with very few exceptions, like the silver one that just changed hands.

On the 993 forum, a guy just sold his 993 for $19k. It looked to be in great condition with reasonable miles. He started at $26.5 which I think is low for that car. He kept reducing his price and settled on $21k firm and then ended up taking $19k. It's a scarry market for sellers right now, but buyers have the pick of the crop.

I've actually got some cash to buy a daily driver, as I would like to keep the miles low on my '89 911. Prices here in Atlanta are either holding up, or people are just holding on for better times. I am looking at a '00 Boxster S for about $17k, which I think is a pretty good deal. I've tried to look for late model 964's, but I can't find anything listed for less than $25k (my target price range). If his 993 was an early model, those have had some problems, right? What would be the best Porsche for my money?

Are you focused on coupe's only ... to track?

The 964 had problems, but I am not sure about the 993.

Looking (was) for a low mileage nice weekend car (coupe in blue, white, or silver). I'll be liberating the 89 Baltic Blue coupe from Tim Holt's inventory on Friday and bringing it home.

a 95 993 would be your best bet.
they all end up with the dreaded air ports hgetting plugged , but the 95 has OBD1 and wil not throw a code . or a light

I'm pretty sure the early 993's had problems, which is why their values are lower (but I know very little about that model). I new about the early 964's, which is why I said I was looking for late model 964's and couldn't find any in my price range.

Every car had problems....most should be resolved by now....964s/993's are 10-15 years old.
