Default If I'm looking at '99 to '01 911's as a DD option, ...

should I just go ahead and buy a newer boxster, as they are much cheaper? My daughter just turned 16 and is starting to drive my Maxima fairly reguarly. If I spend $25,000 on the 996, I'm going to be very tempted to sell my '89 911 for parking room and practicality. Thoughts from the peaNUT gallery? I've missed the boards.

I knew I would get that response, and I so see the logic. I was hoping for a DD with a few more creature comforts. Air conditioning that really works is always a plus in Atlanta, as an example. Plus, the thought of parking my '89 at the Atlanta airport makes me want to vomit.

The Boxster is a brilliant car. I was priviliged to own one. I got no problem with you buying one. There's quite a contingent of enthusiast Atlanta area owners over on Porsche Pete's Boxster Board, www.ppbb.com.

For years a Boxter was voted the most fun car made. I think the Minicooper may have taken that spot over.

Putting a teenager in a high performance car is a risk. Could be good to introduce her to auto cross to learn car controll in a safe envornment.

Me, I'd give the kid the Maxima and buy the Boxter for myself (cheaper insurance). And would stay away from an early 996.

Enjoy.

Everyone kicks themselves for selling their aircooled 911.. just something to consider. Are there concerns of your daughter driving the Pcar at all (like if the Maxima is in the shop?) You might want to keep the 911 and pick up a Boxster for $13-15K instead. Modern car for you and maybe you can keep the 911!

and don't underestimate the Maxima, mine has 290 HP and can pull away easily from Carreras.

My Maxima can probably keep up with my Carrerra ... in a straight line . I've been reading up on the Boxsters, and they've had tons of engine problems. We'll see. I may lean toward a late model 964.

My 01 S Boxster was rock solid, Trust me, if you get a 996 you will not be tempted to sell the 89, they are VERY different beasts for sure!

I dont DD mine but it would make for an excellent DD!

You can get an excellent Boxster in your budget. I can't wait to get back into one. But I promised myself I wouldn't sell anything to get one, so for now it's "just" my 911.

Of course, I might be tempted into a 996 (especially a C4) since Julie now drives a convertible.

I'm also considering a 2nd Porsche as a DD. You may already know this but the 996 has the same engine issues as the Boxster, although the extent of the problem is unknown. I'd still love to own a Boxster, though. If I was in the market for a 964, I'd be looking at this one:

I just got my new Excellence magazine today. It has what looks like a great article on the M96 engines. I haven't read it through, but it I thought I saw something about the 3.2 motors being the strongest, and builders are figuring out how to rebuild these motors with significantly higher hp and better reliability. Might wan to check it out!

I saw that 964; it's a beauty. The Boxster I'm looking at looks to be in good shape, has low miles and is still substantially cheaper than the 964. I got clearance from the boss () last night; so, I may go give it a test drive soon.
