Unhappy 911SC Valve Adjustment Problems

I just finished adjusting my valves on a 1982 911SC. I also replace the cap, rotor and plugs. After reinstalling the valve covers and filled engine with oil I attempted to start...engine would just turn over and not start. I felt that I needed to readjust the valves so I again took off all the valve covers and removed the plugs. I am unable to turn the engine over on the pulley to line up TDC. It is as if the engine is froze. The pulley belt is tight and plugs are out. I tried to loosing up a few of the valves that are depressed but to no avail. Do you think I bent a valve? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think it possible to bend a valve by a poor adjustment.

I would have started with the easy stuff first such as; Did I plug all the leads back in, are they in the right order on the cap, are they on the right plugs, did I accidentally unplug anything when I was reaching around in there...etc?

Also, did you do it the normal adjustment method or the backside method?

Default 911SC valve adjustment

Thanks for the help Matt,

I agree with you that having the possibility of the plug wires in the wrong order or disconnecting something around the engine could cause it not to start but my biggest concern now is that I cannot turn the engine over.

Thanks,

Mike

If the belt is slipping just try squeezing the belt as you are trying to turn.

Have you tried going anticlockwise SLIGHTLY to see if the thing turns?

With the plugs out it should turn rather easily.

A friend of mine who is well versed in 911's suggested that I try slight ccw. Engine would not turn in that direction either. You would think with the plugs out that the engine would turn easily.

Since you're in Stillwater - any chance you have had some work done at Auto Edge?

Might be worth giving them a call..but it makes no sense to me why taking the valve covers off after it turned over would prevent you from turning it by hand.

Maybe you were missing a wrench, socket or a piece of hardware from the covers?

Did you by chance, turn the engine counterclockwise? I have read that doing this can damage the chain tensioner. I also believe that in some SC models, the distributor rotates counterclockwise. I mention this, because it would effect your valve adjustment.
