Angry Cannot drive the Targa-No gas

Was planning on driving the targa this morning and I am down to little below a 1/4 tank.

I cannot fill up now since all of the service stations I pass going to work were ot of gas

Now I hear the local schools might close if they cannot fuel up the busses...

Sorry, just had to vent a little.

Everyone freaked out on Friday about Ike cutting off gas supplies to the south east.

We had lines at the pumps similar to the Opec Embargo and some stations jacked up their prices close to $6 a gallon.

I checked yesterday.
Here is Orangeburg the cheapest you could find gas was $3.99, in New York City it is $3.29 and in LA it is $3.65. There is something messed up with that. Thursday night everybody was rushing the stations to fill up and several ran out of fuel. There is no shortage but the people messed things up when they went out and horded the fuel.

Don't feel too bad - I paid $6.06US a gallon (1.60 per litre) yesterday! So much for being next door to the oil sands.

Our friend from Galveston got here in Dallas yesterday. No fuel from Beaumont to mid east Texas-- no power for the pumps. Was in a trap for 4 days with no water, fuel, or power(cell phones went out also). Could not move because of flood and downed trees. Her home is gone, and all within. She had her dogs and a change of clothes, and fortunately, cash to buy gas etc.
There is no shortage of fuel here. The report is that damage to the refineries was minimal due to the seawalls holding. Only a few offshore rigs were lost and they were small production units. Pipe lines are being inspected with no bad loss reports yet.
Oil tanker off loading may be another story.

Cuz Ruby needs it to make her "witches' brew" of 1 part 100 to 3 parts 91. Her chip is set for higher octane than what she now gets in Calif, and I don't want to take any chances. She'll be twin-plugged next year.

Exclamation

Nashville is still short on gas. I drove my daughter to the mall in my 911 because my M3 is down to 1/8 tank.

When I got to COSTCO their pumps are also closed. The news said last week's run on gas is ging to affect us for a few more days.

GALVESTON, Texas, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Texas Gulf Coast oil refineries closed by Hurricane Ike have begun sputtering back to life, company officials said.

The area includes the two largest oil refineries in the country, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.

Exxon Mobile's Baytown refinery, the largest, has begun steps to restore production, a process that takes a week or more, the Chronicle reported. The second largest, BP's Texas City refinery -- with a 460,000-gallon-a-day capacity -- has also regained power at its processing units, the newspaper said.

Fourteen refineries lost power due to the storm. At least six have begun the start-up process, the newspaper said.

My guess is that there may be a couple of weeks of tight supply. Texas has 10s of thusands displaced due to Ike and there is a lot of movement by car. It appears there is an attempt to keep a fuel supply at reasonable costs as people still leave Houston and some return. I paid $3.59 for reg yesterday and hear of no short supply..
