one thing to remember is that mm has been a sponsor since the beginning. Only now, that there are pop ups, is it obvious to everyone.

before, membership money went to a cause. Now it doesn't.

Just because a publication or forum takes add money from a company doesn't make them a good company. It's up the the consumer to do the research before spending their money. The beauty part is that we all meet here and help sort out the good and the bad.

This is an interesting thread, and I appreciate its point, but I'd like to post a thought. There is a difference between Rennlist accepting a MM ad, and the L.A. Dodgers posting an ad for condoms on the outfield wall. Many Dodger fans would stay home rather than explain the ad to their kids. The same type of thing exists with Hollywood, you can let your wallet decide the fate of a movie, by boycotting or going to it, based on the lead star's political stance. With the MM ad I see a different situation, one where hanging around and offering personal experience will benefit users of the forum that's collecting advertising dollars. With luck, readers of that ad will ask about them, at which time everything from horror stories to good experiences can be offered by Rennlisters. Let's be thankful that Rennlisters will be available to give advice, which might not be the case with Pano, or other publications.

Yes, true. But you also wouldn't expect to see ciggy ads in a kids' magazine. There are also ethical considerations that come to play, and the "line" that is drawn, while vague at best, is still one that consumers and the host publication must come to some consensus on ...or the former will vote with their feet. Nothing wrong with a pubication saying "no, we feel there may be a problem with accepting your advertising dollars..."

Bottom Line is that this site should NOT be letting MM have an advertising outlet.

Actually, isn't it the same thing? Both companies seem to be all about the customer getting scr3wed?!

(Sorry, but, I just couldn't let that one get by without notice).

Brent,

Now when European Collectibles gets ad space I'm going to unload a story for the ages. No, not the rusted out longhood for $30,000....worse, far far worse.

I have to agree. Their user base (and therefore a percentage of their PAID subscriber base as well as their advertiser's target market) is speaking in this thread. They should listen.

As an aside . . .

Can any computer geek build a bot that reclicks that link a zillion times? Click ads aren't that cheap & you pay by the click of course . . .

Ian

Does the pay-per-click take into account whether it is the same computer ip address doing the clicking? Or is it a straight click for fee arrangement?

If the latter, you can use macro software, such as QuicKeys to automate all manner of multi key-stroke, mouse-move operations, including opening a website.

You could click between a given website, and, say, google homepage, and then set the macro to repeat a given number of times. Like 12,000.

For example. At some point, I imagine, a budget would be reached.

Heheh.

Not that I"ve ever done such a thing with a competitor's google adwords link or anything underhanded like that.

A couple of things to do:

Go to the main Rennlist page & click feedback & vent. Give them the link to this page too.

Also, PM user:IB Membership

I have known Nick for maybe 25 years. When we are back in California next month, I will invite you down to HB or visit you and we can swap some stories. Should be a good time. Oh yeah, I get a ride in your car.

Check out the lack of "banner ad" in OT. IB got the hint there and removed it.

Just to let you know - we do appreciate your feedback on the banner advertisements.
They were placed up, because one of rennlist's sponsors requested the ability to have a banner advertisement.

We have disabled it for all of the "member only" areas

Adrian
