Thanks for your comment.
Nope its not my car, it belongs to a friend who lets me take it out from time to time.
It’s a 1986 model with all original parts and under 5,000km on the clock, the car is absolutely perfect as you can probably tell from the pictures.
The first time I drove the car a couple of things drew my attention 1) the size of the steering wheel (huge!) and 2) a gear market “G” which I am told is a gear lower than 1st.
However, the most extraordinary aspect of the car is just how ordinary it is from the inside, you can literally drive it down to the shops for some milk or go for The Ring lap record, not that I have ever driven this car in anger; an incredible achievement by the Porsche engineers.
While driving the car I get a strong sense of occasion and privilege, like I am driving automotive history which in a way I am as it took 20 years for regular production line cars to catch up to the 959.
I’m not the showoff type so I normally take it on back rounds however on one occasion 2 years ago I was driving down a main drag during midday with the road completely empty when a brand new turbo or GT3 (not sure) pulled up behind me, they guy just sat there and would not overtake, his car was yellow and I remember it clearly. Anyway I thought it was nice that he showed the car a little, well deserved, respect.
