Default Removal of Oil Thermostat

Any ideas how to get a stuck one out? Rebuilt the engine (1969 911T)about 15 years ago, think there is an oil leak around the oring, but it won't budge. Soaking in Liquid Wrench, tried tapping with a rubber mallet, prying up on two sides(gently). Any advice?
Thanks
Steve

I've never seen one not come out - my method has always been to use two old-fashioned brake "spoons," adjustment tools that can be used like mini pry bars.

do you refer to the one that is held in by 2 bolts or the sending unit at the rear end of the engine and its not sunk in the case?

1. you can pop a screw driver around after you tapt it a couple times with a hammer with reg around it!
2. both are about the breader area of the engine.

Thanks, two open end wrenches levered this out. Turns out the reason it was difficult, I put sealant around the top (just in case oil got by the oring)when I installed this lots of years ago.

Yep, no sealant! A little smear of white lithium grease on the o-ring, and that's it!
