Calling all speculators, or at least all of you willing to venture a prognostication. Which will have the greater appeciation over time? From what I've read so far there seems to be a bifurcation in the respective markets w/ low mileage cars having significant premiums to higher mileage cars for both the 89s and 94s. Maybe I haven't looked enough yet, but I haven't read much comparing the pricing pattern of the 89s v 94s. Searching "Speedster" gives me lots of irrelevant chaff.
I'm interested mainly in what people think about future price patterns for 30k+ mileage, not low mileage queens.
Thanks, Pat.
(I'm considering jumping into the market for one)

My thoughts are the 89 will be a better investment. I realize the pro and cons of the arguments (I own an 88 911 Club Sport and a 94 RS America). I think the 89 has more "Porsche Purists" sentiment than the 964 Speedster. Based on my performance in the stock market of late, buy the 94....

+3 on the '89. I think the main reason is that it was the first 911 that paid respect to the 356 Speedsters. Back in 2000 when I bought my '94, I was looking for 1) appreciation potential and 2) driveability. At that point, '89s were selling for $60-$70K with under 10K on the odometer, and '94s were in the mid-$50s. I chose the 964, and that choice has paid off to date.
Today, however, prices have converged. I do expect the '89 on average to hold a premium price to the 964. With that said, go with the one you like as they feel/drive completely different. IMHO, both will continue to rise is value as long as the mileage stays under 30K, with an edge going to the '89. Above 30K, it will depend on the state of the "current" economy when you are ready to sell....
My $0.02,

Thanks guys.
Recently I put a deposit on C63 AMG which has a build date of July 1. It'd be a DD. When I started thinking more about the depreciation hit, I started doubting the decision. A speedster would really be nice. It wouldn't really be an all the time DD as there's a turbo bug and an Avant we drive around, but I would drive it a lot. The black RSA is a track car at this point. Cheers.

..btw, yes, the 94s are normally narrow body, though I recall reading somewhere (may have been one of Blake's posts) that there are maybe 10 or so special order wide body 94 speedsters.

Buy whichever one has the lower mileage and whichever one was produced in a lesser amount.

Saw an '89 last night. I have only seen a couple in person, but this has to be near the very top of the list in terms of the most beautiful cars Porsche has made.
Wish I had a 3rd garage.
