M491 Cab Value
Hey guys. I have searched and done some research on my own but would like to have a little input on the value of an 87 m491 cab. The car will be going up for sale in a month or so.
Little bit about the car. 2 owner 1987 black/tan/black top m491 cab purchased by my brother (2nd owner) around 1991. The car then had 10k miles on it. It currently has about 53k on it and has been garaged its entire life. I have tried to convince my brother to hang onto it but it just doesn't make sense for him as the car is so rarely driven. He had it in California, then the car came with him when he moved back to Florida. The car is currently garaged at his house in Orlando. He lives primarily in New York. Being a Florida car the air conditioning was upgraded. Also due to a top malfunction that damaged the top it has a new top. Additionally new skins were put on the front seats as the original leather was starting to harden and was getting to the point of cracking around the seams in the lower driver seat cushion. Other than the skins, ac upgrade, stereo upgrade and new top the car is original and bone stock. Exterior I would give a 9.5/10 (paint is good but there is one ding on one of the front fenders). Interior is a 9.5/10 also with the new skins. Top is perfect. Car is mechanically perfect and I'll get the shop that has worked on the car to provide records (European Performance in St. Petersburg, FL for those who might be familiar with Mickey). Also, no accidents or paintwork.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'll be going down to Florida in a month or so to take pics etc and between now and then I plan on calling PNA w/ the vin to get the full options list and whatnot.
Thanks guys,
Kris

Kris, welcome to Rennlist. I'll venture anywhere from no less than $25K to beond $35K. It really depends on condition and market. You really need to shop the net.

I know the car quite well and would agree with the description Kris gave. It's nearly perfect and with the new skins and top, the car is practically like new. It would be great to see this car go to another member when it does go on the block.

M491 cars are popular and seem to be climbing in value as the years go by. Even 100k mile 491 cars still seem to be pulling mid $20's.
I'll agree with Douglas above and say this car probably could sell around $30k plus or minus a few thousand. If it's really mint with no flaws, it may bring in the low $30's or $35k.

I recently was in on a 37k mile 87 turbo cab, and it was nice, but not as nice as it sounds this one was, it is more like 40k, I have a 7k mile one and have offers in excess of 50k that are standing anytime, any place, the 37k car fetched 37500 almost immediately.

I've been shopping the net but good information is tough to come by on these cars. It's been hard enough trying to get a ballpark for production #'s! I was thinking in the low to mid 30's and just wanted to get some input and an enthusiast message board is about as good a place to look as any. When I get down to Florida to take some pics I'll post them. I really appreciate the input.
As a long time air cooled fan myself if there was any way I could swing it financially the car would be mine.... alas.

I own a 84 M491 Cab bought it in 2006 for $17,500 but this was a great deal.
A car like the one you describe I think should sell for $25000 to $30000 range, if you price it here it will sell quickly.
But I will add that this car seems very clean and could fetch as much as $35000 but you will need to find the right buyer who knows the value of the M491 - many buyers just want a widebody and don't see why the M491 option has extra value.

Is your post refering to a 37,000 mile 930 model Turbo or a regular 3.2 Carrera with the M491 option code?
A 37,000 mile 930 Turbo Cabrio in mint shape should bring $37.5 quickly.
No flamming, no disrespect intended. Just want to clarify for all those reading along at home.

This is a good deal for a car with 30K miles.
One other thing to concider is that not all M491 Cabs are the same. In 1984 very few M491 Cab cars where built, the only way to get a M491 Cab in 84 was to order it that way. It was the first year that it was made possible to even order a M491 Cab. I have exactly this car and I think as time passes this car will have special value. Then in 85 the factory took notice and starting building M491 Cabs and delivering them to dealers on spec. By 86-89 the M491 cab was produced in much higher numbers.
Actual production numbers for the M491 cab are hard to come by because Porsche will not release them. But some speculate that less than 30 M491 Cabs where built in 84 and some have reported fewer than 5 but I think this is not correct.
Bottom line the earlier (84-85) M491 cabs are hard to come by, while most M491 cabs you'll find are 86-89 cars.
