Default Calling all experts or anyone that knows much about center consoles! Carpet Update!

Ok so trying to do the cruise control and carpeting but the center console is being the BIGGEST PITA so far in this project. I cant get the AC Temp Control Switch out and I dont know what to do. How do I remove it? Also pictures of the car minus the interior, enjoy.

Oshin:

The round piece around the shaft is a nut. Unscrew it CCW, and the shaft will then be free of the box.

If you need to loosen, use a screwdriver with a hammer tap in one of the grooves. A pair of needlenose pliers will do the rest, if not the whole process.

I think we need a 1 year ownership report from Oshin. Time spend disassembling vs time spend driving.

Pshhht, working on the car is more than half the fun for me! I didn't really buy this car to drive it as much as to work on it and learn about it.

Ed should I be turning on the shaft? Or trying to turn the circular part? Its quite hard to grip the circular part with pliers.

see the lines at 5 and 11? Do as Ed said and put a screwdriver in there and turn counter clockwise.

Oshin--i have a special tool that can help you remove it. Leave the shaft alone,--rotate the nut around it CCW.

Yea I got it a long time ago, thanks for all the help! I'll update with pictures when the new carpet arrives tomorrow. Any ideas on what to use to remove old glue but not take my cars paint off?

Oshin I agree with you on the project part .. My car went about 20 ft the first year of owner ship. The guys here were teasing me that even an F-16 had better use/ Maintanance ratio than I did. But i certainly did enjoy myself and learned tonnes about my car. Now i spend a lot of time transferring that knowledge.

Have fun.

Yea Ice, I love it, this is training for when I get my PhD and get a job, thats when the real fun will start. When I have time on my hands I am going to get a roller and build a car from the ground up!

Oshin,--I use brake cleaner a lot,--it will be a bit slower taking off the paint as your paint has aged nicely.
