My brother wrecked his blood orange 914-6 back in the mid-70's, backwards into a telephone pole. Going forward about 10 years he purchased another 914-6 and after 2 years of ownership he found the paperwork from the orignal car and noticed the VIN's matched
He then sold it a few months later to fund equipment for his shop
