it's all over now ... bad to worse.
Well I got back from Hershey Last night and today went to button things up and give her a test.
It had trouble starting and ran really rough so I shut it off. I rechecked my igniion leads and it semed strange that i had to reposition ones on the cap as the order did not seam right based on the pic back when I was putting the wires back on . But it all looked okay ..
I went to restart it and you guessed it .. BANG . !.. the airbox is now blown completely in two. I don't know what I did wrong. Everything seams okay.
So now I will be off the road for some time i imagine.
oh well

That sucks, I would send you one if I had an extra. This has now made me put on the brakes a little....I was planning on doing a valve job soon. Ill wait to see what you come up with for the reason why it happened....you can never learn too much.

ice: Sorry about the failure, now it's time to remove the engine. But first, why did you have ignition wires loose to do a valve adjustment? What else did you do that might have caused your problem? To be sure that the valves were done right, did you have to change the adjustment of any of them more than a thou or two? To refresh, you resealed your injectors a couple of years ago, yes?

Well lets back up a little .
I took all the leads off to remove the valve covers of course and to make access easier. As far as the adjustment goes .Until I had the technique right I backed a few right off and adjusted in on the shim. Maybe they aren't right , who knows. I of course had the cap off to see where the rotor was to make sure I was correct for the adjustment . It was running really rough like i had the leads mxed up .
As I said the strange thing was i never took any leads off the cap. When I went to put the leads back on the plugs they only reach so far, So I plugged them in where they lay . I then double checked from my book and the diagram on my car and thought that is odd it isn't right ( unless i read it all wrong ) and had to change a few around at the cap. so i checked and rechecked . I went to start it and it started very rough like I had leads mixed up . I stopped it and checked the leads again .. looked okay , so restarted it and then the gunshot sound and new it was over.
I then went rounfd back , picked up the airbox, dropped it , and closed the lid and went in the house .. I went out back , lifted the whole airbox up
when i get over the initial shock I will go out and post a pic of me lead configuration to make sure I am not completely crazy.
So I guess the engine is coming out or at least a partial drop. I am draining all that oil i just put in , and am now in for more work as the weather finally gets nice. Pete id id reseal the injectors. too bad too , it had never run better until i decided to tune it up .. oh well ....

Thanks Guys I will ,make a few calls this week. The airbox is particular for 78 and 79 ... so it may be a challenge
My box according to PET is "A 911-110--106-13"
All I can find references to is 911-110-106-20
Anyone know if this is the same or if there is an actual P/N on my airbox ?
Thanks

Iceman,

Can you epoxy your together?
It's been done by others on the Pelican forums.

Thanks John , this one is 39mm runners I need 44 or someting. I could certainly epoxy it together , I will have a better idea when i get it out , but really if I am taking the egine out, 400.00 or so for a box is really nothing. looks like Pelican and Vertex have them. IF they fit that is.
Now I just have to learn how to take an engine out.
