Yesterday, I went to look at 70 911T with a 73 MFI engine. The car was immaculate in appearance with no rust to be found. Everything was great about the appearance, now it was time for the test drive. Be aware that I am 16 and have never drivin a 911 let alone the tricky 901 transmission
He drove at first, willingly showing of the power of this car. It flat flew, much more than I expected. He pulled of the highway and insisted that I drove it back to his dealership. He first showed me how the dogleg first gear worked and I was on my way. I was truly amazed that I drove this car as well as I did and I was in love when I first sat behind the wheel. Now when I arrived back at the dealership, my dad took it for a spin and was also blown away by the performance it had. Each gear shifted smooth as better with all the power to back it up. I searched through the maintance records that he had for the car. The car was top end rebuiled only a year before. It was almost to good to be true. Even the tensioners had been replaced a few years back.
The clutch was also replaced right before purchase. The only thing wrong with the car was that it leaked a small amount of oil but seeing that it came from the oil return lines I wasn't that worried. Now the best part, my dad wheeled him down from ten grand to 7800 and he was going to give us a deal on fiixing the oil leak. I am still stunned a day after. Thank you all for filling me in on such important info on these cars. I don't know what I would have done without it.

WOW! Sixteen and a 911 owner! Congrats! I certainly wished my first car was a 911. Your father obviously has alot of trust in you, dont make him regret it by wrecking the car - do yourself a favor and sign up for a driver's ed or two.
Best of luck!

Congrats... please be careful!!
When I was 16 and first drove my pops' 911, I was terrified for a while. It felt so strange/unpredictable. Get some experience with it and you will learn its peculiarities so when something does go wrong, you'll know how to react.
Have fun!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I would definitely do some autocrosses as it teaches you great car control, once you turn 18 you can do some de's with pca, and really have some fun. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I was scared driving it for a while too, but it was more because I thought I was going to wreck it in the traffic jam I got caught up in on the way back to the dealership. Autocrossing sounds great but I don't have the money to keep up a this car for racing it though I know it would fly. The car was used for racing in the early nineties apparent by the repair records. I have never seen so many suspension parts replaced. I plan to be very careful considering one wreck can total this car quite quickly.
