Hi everyone I would like peoples thoughts regarding three questions? One has anyone delt with Northwest Investment Cars in Seattle?Second they have a1987 911 with 125k miles and 20k in engine work by rothsport. What would one pay? They are asking 32k seems way over priced to me.Is 15k too low of a price? Lastly for Sunday drives in Ct which would be more fun a930 or 911 1987 model yr? Thanks everyone ps I understand the 930 is all or nothing
Drive the 930 and drive the 911, see which one you like more. Also consider the maintenance, insurance, and other costs associated with each.
As for price, 32K does seem a little high but seeing as you haven't really given details is hard to say. With these cars it's condition, condition, condition. A PPI is always useful and a must.
I live in Seattle and have never heard of them. $32k for an '87 911 seems awfully high to me. I bought an all stock '89 911 with 53k miles last year for a lot less than that...
You might keep your eye on Park Place (www.parkplaceltd.com). They have a '79 930 right now for $36k with 69k miles.
Values for the cars seem to be creeping up again (my observation / impression anyway), but as mentioned, it depends on the condition more than the mileage. I still think that's pretty high, but you need a lot more info on the car before you can make that decision.
$20k in engine work, well, is it back to stock, or is it a hot rod? Someone may not want to pay through the nose for a car that's been customized like that, as resale is questionable. Or, was it a case of, it's now a 300hp 3.6L setup that's perfect for what you want? A local guy paid $14k for a 3.6L conversion, for example, on top of the purchase of the car itself first, then funds for wheels, body update, interior redone, Brembos, suspension, etc. - on a chassis that was 175k at the time. He's easy $30k into the car and it's still a red '83 SC w/ high miles when he goes to sell it, unless he finds someone who wants what he's done.
I just looked over at the Pelican classified an there and did not see any 87-89 Carrera coupes posted for the last couple of days, just Tarags and Cabriolets.
However is did spot this nice turbo look (non-factory) for 26k
is this the one? http://www.nwicars.com/07076a.htm
The Edgar Martinez factor adds to the price, but doesn't make the car go any faster or make it drive any better.
I like the color.
Ya what he said about test driving. I have found that just a plain jane Carrera suits me fine. As you have noticed there are a ton of convertibles and targas for sale. Good coupes are the easiest to sell when you no longer want to own the car. Patience and an independent PPI is your best friend.
A 20K engine? These cars already have forged internals with a headers from the factory......20K?
Remember, dealers = shifty eyes and bad shoes.
That one has been offered for sale by them for nearly a year. That alone tells you the price is too high. To be honest if I could get it for 25k I would seriously be interest, its quite a sleeper.
Seems way too high to me. With all that custom stuff going on it could be difficult to work on. It has headers and a custom muffler? That could mean no heat. Ask a lot of questions and then ask some more...

Not only that, just think of all the states that require emissions testing before the car can be registered - you can kiss off a huge part of the market by that alone. If somebody tried to bring that thing into California you might be able to hear the laughter over the noise of the car crusher...
So basically somebody spent more on his engine that the car is worth and they are trying to get it ALL back, 10 G fora SC with a tired engine and 20 g for an engine rebuild
Well, I see some interesting things on there, it's not just a straight rebuild. 964 cams, separate engine management unit & harness, 48mm TBs, dyno time & tuning, lightweight clutch, etc. Not making a comment on the build, just sayin' it looks more than your typical refresh is all, and that's where the coin went.
