Are these the very special P-O-R-S-C-H-E letters, in gold, that are not connected to each other, and fit through holes in the engine lid?

not really, the letters i am looking for come in chrome or black and are united and come with three pins that attach to the car. I don't know which car it comes from but any will do.

Is this an item a dismantler like www.911pcar.com would have? Even if you had to get it re-chromed.

I'm pretty sure that you might be looking for one of the rarest emblems; I think that the '66 911 fit that description, but they were gold. That leaves, I think, only the '66 912, and those letters were silver (chrome), never black. You might want to try posting on the "912" forum.
