Post New-to-me '88 Cab

After lurking on this site and others for a few months, buying a few recommended books and attending a PCA/DE Chapter meeting I found and purchased a 1988 911 Cabrio w/ 47k miles. It's Red w/ black int and it runs very well, shakedown run of 400 mi. and less than .25 qt. of oil used.

In a seperate post later I will describe my experience locating the car (it found me) and my difficulties w/ online resources like PorscheClassified.com. For now I'm just enjoying the car though I did upgrade the radio and replaced all speakers (they were completely shot, to be expected after 14 yrs).

For now, thanks for the quality advice posted on the site, it helped me greatly.

Congrats- it looks great!
I love the color keyed wheels- I havnt seen them often on G-red. I have a '87 gp white cab/navy top/int w/ the c.k. wheels too - on this vintage car I prefer them over any aftermarket wheel out there.

Happy driving and good luck w/ it,

Dan

Sweet red fuchs! I've never seen them on a guards red 911. Very complimentary.

I LOVE my 88 and have owned mine for 5 years now. I'll have to get it something nice for it's 5 year b-day this month.

Very nice Bill! I have an '87 cab. Owned it for 3 years. I love it. Good luck. I do runs with a bunch of people from Eastern PA, MD, DE, and even NY. We run down the Eastern shore and through SE PA. The weekend of 11/2 we are doing a run/overnighter to Watkins Glen. We have room for a few more if you are interested.

Thumbs up

I love that car!!!

Cabs rule and that red is a great color. I like it almost as much as black

I got mine 3 yrs. ago with 40k miles, now I have 65k miles and only had the usual small fix'm ups to pay for. Other than that, oil, filters & tires.

Great find, drive it in good health.

Congrats on the new car. It's a beauty!

I just replaced the radio and speakers in my 84. I decided not to go with a radio that has a ton of flashy digital graphics. I wanted the radio to be simple and "clean," much like the interior of the car. I also wanted a Blaupunkt because, after all, a German car should have a German radio, right? (Yeah, I know, it says Blaupunkt on the outside but it was built in Portugal. Go figure...) Ultimately I settled on the Blaupunkt Heidelberg. It has some graphics, but most can be turned off using menus. It looks great...just like it "belongs" there. And, it sounds fantastic.

I'm sure there are better radios out there, but given that my car is a Targa, and that with the top on or off it's noisy, I decided not to go crazy with the radio. The Heidelberg represented a very good mid-price range solution to my radio needs.

Good luck with the new car.
