Agree with ked.
A Carrera is a Carrera, so a 3.2. Sometimes in Europe 3.0 Carreras are referred to as "Carrera 3", which is bogus as well IMHO.
I've never heard of C1 here in Europe neither.

Uh, Ked, I used to own a 356 bent window. Pre A, B etc. Maybe some body is attempting to fill in the missing link in the none, 2, 4. However, IF we ever get luckey enough to own one, I will call it SIR--- with the proper respect.

I have to agree. In thinking about it, there is no reason for an additional identifier - when a Porsche guy mentions "Carrera," you just know he's talking about a 3.2 liter car.

"...when a Porsche guy mentions "Carrera," you just know he's talking about a 3.2 liter car."
except when he's talking about a "real Carrera"... the 4cam 4 cyl competition motors of the '50s & '60s.
jake's point about 356 series nomenclature is illuminating... there was no "pre A" until later, when the community wanted to distinguish them from the far more numerous As, Bs, & Cs. in the beginning, production Porsches were just one series (w/ cogniscenti refering to the internal design #) w/ evolved variants ABC.
911 Carreras will never be so rare or unsupported that their enthusiasts will allow outsiders to call them C1s, without getting grief. Leave it to an Aussie to make things clear & simple...

I wasn't aware Porsche made 911s after '89...
actually, you've got to hand it to the brand development mgrs at PAG. once they have a name that sells, they retain it, so as the model proceeds, it just gains more & more names, all appealing to mkt segments... in the case of your water-pumper...
911 : traditionalists
Carrera : competitors
997 : modernist-status conscious
as to how to respond to people who say irritating things about your car... just smile, get in & drive away.

ked, the water pumper on the left isn't mine....it's my boss's. mine is the real 911 to the right of the picture. Does that change your answer? ...and yes, he asks all the time if I'll trade.

my pov is unchanged, & my tongue remains in cheek.
new Porsches are very nice... all of 'em... rarely have new variants of Porsches been a step back in relation to previous ones, or weaker in comparison to alternatives in their current new car mkt (maybe the emissions-challenged mid yr cars & of course, the lasting 911vs964 debate). a friend has a 997S Cab that (I believe) may be one of the finest all-around 2 seater open sports cars ever made - as long as you can comfortably afford it & the warranty is in effect.
don't ask me about trading, I seem to just acquire, acquire, acquire.
{btw, I did not mean status conscious in the completely prejorative sense, but more literally; that is, 997 is meaningful nomenclature to those who tend to make fine distinctions... 996 vs 997, for instance... lotsa those in the Porsche market & PAG-PCNA markets to that (collect all 4!)}
cheers!

HELP ---- Scarrera === yes indeed. A one series I think. 1978 SC with a 1984 engine and 84 915 trans. 84 front end steering stuff. Now, I really need some HELP. My book is in Calif and I am in Dallas. The engine # he told me is 64F01228. If anyone has a book handy can you confirm 1984 Carrera eng?? Now, if I buy it, will a definition of --- Carrera powered 911 --work with you guys??
