Default Peter-- 1957 4 cam engine

Saw this at PCA classified parts today. http://www.a57356.com/4cam/ $120,000. It is a 1957 1500 GS. Would you like to own this or what?

Wow! I personally think the asking price is way over the top, if it was a 904 motor, maybe, but who knows? Thanks for posting!

The car it's in looks rather nice, at least from the rear. I wonder why someone would want to separate it from the (I assume) original car. Front end destroyed perhaps?

I wondered that too, but the engine does not include the tank & hoses, so maybe the little car is getting a later, more powerful, more reliable 4-cam motor...

Geez, those things go for a lot these days! I remember the founder of my shop telling me that in the late '60s-early '70s, they used to have several Carrera engines just sitting around the shop collecting dust! I guess at the time they were considered just old race motors that nobody wanted. I don't think they attained classic status till the craze of the '80s. Really cool engines though, even if the early ones like the one in the link make more noise than power!
