Default '89 3.2 seat question

All:

Are the front seat backs the same on the drivers and passengers sides? My drivers side has a wear hole in it, so if they're the same, I may try to pick up a good used passengers side one and swap it. for my worn drivers side.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Default Seat Back Swaps

I know that the earlier sport seats had interchangeable backs. A lot of people have swapped them around before, but... I can't say for sure about the later year models like yours. I have seen many people get extra life out of their seats, by swapping the backs around. There may also be some differences in power vs non power, I can't say for sure. I do know that the power/heated sport seats in my car are interchangeable. I found this out by accident, when I was recovering my seats. I had removed the backs while I was doing this to allow the room needed to be able to do the final fitting sewing on the new covers. Just looking at them, they were peas in a pod, or like or dear old friend has stated, "we went together, like peas and carrots" and it is all just like Mama said, "life is like a box of chocolates" Damn, someone just hit me with a ping-pong ball! Good luck!! Tony.

Paul,

I would think they are. In my car, I think I can swap them but then the the little thingamabob that allows you fold the seat back down would be on the inside instead of the outside. FWIW, being lazy, I would just swap the entire seat.

On my '89 I've got electronic seat adjustments on the drivers side and 'pull levers' manual adjustments on the passenger side. Small difference, but it is there...

Piece of cake - don't need to remove seats.

Swapped mine first thing after getting the 89 Targa a few months ago. Standard seats in my 89 and also - in my prior 86 - the same goes for sport seats.

I should edit that my car has manual seat back. I don't know about the electric back, or that there even was one.

Thanks guys. Due to the fact that my seat backs do not have any electrical components, and there are releases on both sides, I am pretty sure I can swap them out. Now all I need to do is find a gently used passenger side seat back from an '89 in linen...

Cheers,

Paul.

Mine has the ambidextrous seat back release handles also.
