Tire selection for 1986 coupe...
I want a quiet tire, yet full of good grip. What is your opinion on these tires for my 1986 911 Coupe? I basically drive agressive on country roads and such, don't do to many DE or solo events. I basically just want a excellent driving, touring, and QUIET tire.
1.) Michelin Pilots(my favorite, but expensive)
2.) Toyo Proxes
3.) Dunlops (SPs 8000, 9000)
4.) Bridgestone (Re730s, SO2, So3s)
5.) Kuhmo Ecstas (have heard great things about these and they are priced right)
6.) Yokohomas
7.) Other (your suggestion)
Any info will be much appreciated,
--Brian

About 600 mi. ago I installed 4 Yokohama AVS ES100's and have been very pleased w/ them. Although my car is a Cab and will be louder than a coupe I have not noticed any noise that I could attribute to the tires. I participated in my first autocross event right after the the tires were installed and was very pleased w/ their performance. Admittedly 600 mi. doesn't give a good picture for long range performance but I'm very pleased w/ them so far.

I just went to Yokohama AVS ES100's as well from Sumatomos (they were on the car when I purchased it 2 1/2 yrs ago), and noticed a much more quiet ride. They also hold well and their performance, according to Tire Rack, is exceptionally good (I've not driven the car hard yet, due to winter season).

I have the Kuhmo Ecsta's on my 1987-944S,have had them for about a year now and I don't think you can find a better all around tire for the price, they are quiet, stick very well dry and wet,and seem to wear very well,I would not hesitate to put them on my 83SC when it needs tires. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I know lots of people are now running the Kuhmos and are very happy with them. Right now I have the SP8000 on my '86 Coupe and have no complaints except yesterday it snowed and they suck in snow! Of course all performance tires suck in snow. That is why I am putting on some Dunlop Winter Sport M2's as soon as they arrive from tirerack.
